Milford Sound (Piopiotahi in Māori) is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey,and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World.
Milford Sound is named after Milford Haven in Wales, while the Cleddau River which flows into the sound is also named for its Welsh namesake. The Māori named the sound Piopiotahi after the thrush-like piopio bird, now extinct. Piopiotahi means "a single piopio", harking back to the legend of Māui trying to win immortality for mankind - when Maui died in the attempt, a piopio was said to have flown here in mourning.

A sort of silver screen about one meter in diameter, onto which light is projected through a little water tank. Ink drops fall into it, creating a smoke like pattern. The projected image is used to create different sounds, triggered by light sensors on the silver screen ... .
Fascinating, dreamy, and creating a strange mood in the room.

The Fort Drum, 10th Mountain Division (LI) Band performs in Carthage, NY as part of a Carthage summer concert series, Aug. 26, 2021. The concert allowed for the community to enjoy the musical talent of the 10th Mountain Division (LI) Band as well as strengthen relationships with Soldiers surrounding Fort Drum, Fort Drum.
The Sound Mirrors, also known as Acoustic Mirrors, Concrete Dishes, or Listening Ears, are large concrete structures designed as an early warning system for Britain to detect enemy aircraft.
These worked by focusing the sound from the plane’s engine so it could be heard before it was visible. There were three designs of mirrors, 20ft, 30ft, and 200ft, and all three can be seen in Greatstone, located at Greatstone Lakes on the northeast side of the Dungeness Nature Reserve.
How the Sound Mirrors Work
The Sound Mirrors worked by using their curved surface to concentrate sound waves by capturing the noise of incoming enemy aircraft approaching from the European mainland and focus it onto a microphone or a human listener equipped with then state-of-the-art stethoscopes. .
Once the receivers were adjusted for best reception, the results would be compared with those from one of the other ‘ears’ and used to calculate an aircraft’s height, speed, and flight path. They worked best at a range of between eight and 24 miles
An operator using a stethoscope would be stationed near the sound mirror, and would need specialist training in identifying different sounds.
Distinguishing the complexity of sound was so difficult that the operators could only listen for around 40 minutes.

Sound for Sight is raising funds and awareness towards Sightsaversâ work eliminating the Worldâs leading cause of preventable blindness, trachoma.
Trachoma is a bacterial infection linked to inadequate water and sanitation and passed on by flies. It is referred to as âneglected tropical diseasesâ and can be prevented and ultimately eliminated entirely.
The Sound for Sight audience will be taken on a spectacular sensory experience during the show that has been carefully curated by Sound for Sight Founder, Laura Westcott and âMo Pleasureâ the former Music Director of Earth, Wind & Fire.
Charlotte Kelly, Soul II Soul
Charlotte rose to fame in the mid 1990s as one of the lead singers of British R&B group Soul II Soul, with hit songs âBack to Lifeâ and âKeep on Movinâ.
Charlotte was born blind at birth with no sight at all in her left eye and virtually none in her right eye.
âI am very excited and delighted to perform at Sound for Sight because being blind from birth, sound is one of the most important tools we possess as blind and visually impaired people. So, treatment and eradication of blindness is a blessing for the growth on the human experience.â â Charlotte Kelly

Denise made her operatic debut in 2003 by winning Channel 4âs Operatunity and playing the role of Gilda in Verdiâs Rigoletto at the London Coliseum.
Since then, Denise has sung all over the world and was honoured to headline the London 2012 Paralympic opening ceremony.
Both Denise and her husband Stefan (who will accompany Denise on piano) are visually impaired with a visually impaired son.
âThe treatment and eradication of blindness, in all itâs forms, is a cause very close to our hearts and we are delighted to be performing at Sound for Sight to help fund research and treatment.â Denise and Stefan
Mo Pleasure
Mo is a renowned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. Mo began his professional music career playing bass guitar with Ray Charles. In 1993, Mo became a member of the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire, and ascended to become the bandâs musical director from 1994-2001.
Mo has performed with Stevie Wonder, Nile Rogers, Bette Midler, Roberta Flack, Amy Winehouse to name a few⦠He also played keys for Michael Jackson on his final comeback tour at the O2.
Dave Swift
Dave joined Jools Hollandâs Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991 as his resident bass player, and has played with him ever since! He is one of the UKâs finest, high-profile bass players and boasts a musicianâs portfolio that is second to none, having played for an array of renowned artists, from George Benson and Chaka Khan to Eric Clapton and Paul Simon.
Professor Dan Reinstein
Dan is a pioneer in laser eye surgery and Founded the London Vision Clinic. He is also a very talented saxophonist and often accompanies Mo Pleasure at Londonâs iconic 606 Club.
Georgia & The Vintage Youth
A 22 year old Essex Girl with big blonde hair, a spine-tingling voice and a master of the retro jazz/swing style of music that is both vintage and fresh (hence the name of the band).
Georgiaâs sound is contagious and subconsciously gets you tapping your feet, whilst her ballads are stripped back allowing Georgiaâs strong and iconic vocal to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.
Joe Slater
A 22-year-old lad from Liverpool who blurs the lines between Blues, Soul and Rock ânâ Roll whilst taking inspiration from The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and Oasis.

From the city which spawned grunge music and the sounds of Quincy Jones to Jimi Hendrix, comes the Sounders FC Sound Wave. Sound Wave is the official band of the Seattle Sounders FC and is the brainchild of Sounders FC minority owner Drew Carey. The 53-person ensemble is made up of traditional marching percussion and brass instruments, bringing the Sounders FC passion to life. The Sound Wave plays custom arrangements from all types of music including Latin, funk, big band, pop and rock.
Sound Wave sets the tone, rhythm and pace for the extraordinary game day atmosphere at Qwest Field.
Sound Wave and the Supporters groups sit in proximity to each other during matches in the south end of Qwest Field. The two groups work in concert to cohesively lead SFC fans in songs and chants that permeate the stadium throughout the match.

Here i've installed sound deadener matting,this cuts down the drumming common in the larger panels.
I've also applied it to the inside of the roof,the back of the cab and i'll also do the firewall.
The results are impressive,it doesn't sound like a steel drum anymore!
I will also install some heat reflective sound proofing to the floor and firewall before the carpet goes in.
In 2004, after five long years of research, Joe's book hit the marketplace. (The one on the left). That's when the calls started to come in, "Hey Joe, how come I'm not in your book?" So, in 2012, the revised "Baltimore Sounds" was released. I cannot think of a more complete history of the rich heritage of Baltimore area performers, bands and record labels that has ever been printed.

A commission I had, to design and make free-standing hardware for a permanent, interactive sound installation for Cleethorpes Academy, North East Lincolnshire, UK.
The hardware consists of 6 infra-red sensor units and 1 lectern that houses an iPad.
The sensor units pick up and track movement. This is all linked to special iPad software created by David Stevens and Simon Desorgher.
The equipment will predominantly be used to aid music and sound lessons and performances. The interactive system is great for children, as they don’t need dexterity in order to get involved and play with sound.
