Department of Agriculture, Rural Development under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to have solar panels installed to help reduce their carbon footprint and to have cost effective electric power for the hospital. REAP provides grants for energy audits and renewable energy development assistance. The program also provides funds to agricultural producers and rural small business to purchase and install renewable energy systems and make energy efficiency improvements. Installed in 2011. The entire PV system at this medical complex reportedly generates 3200 KW and can provide for up to 20% of the hospital's annual energy needs.
Water is brought to the site in 30G recycled juice drums then pumped into a 275G storage tank, seen on the right, using the shurflo transfer pump running off a solar charged battery. You can see the charge controller mounted to the wall. Most of the wiring seen goes up the wall to convenience switches.
Future plans call for some fusing, a higher rate pump, and a externally accessible spigot with PVC piping indoors.

The last sunflower was set in motion in Tin Ujević elementary school in Zagreb.
Founded by Hrvatski Telekom and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the HRK 400,000 project "Solar Sunflowers" is intended to educate school children about renewable energy sources through the installation of ten small solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

This is a hybrid panel from the innovative solar power company "Solarus" from Sweden. It will step up the efficiency and longevity of solar power to a new level, not yet seen in solar heating and PV electrics.
The rays of the sun are focused inside the unit onto a solar PV by a factor of around 3:1. This means less of the expensive solar PVs are needed, to generate the same amount of electric power.
Solar PVs do not like to become hot. The hotter they are, the less they yield, AND the quicker the long term decay of efficiency.
Solarus has ingeniously mitigated this problem by combining this unit with solar heating, allowing the excess heat generated to be cooled by hot water and space heating use.
The IdealThermals concept takes the Solarus panels even further by combining it with seasonal heat storage. This means that adequate cooling for the Solarus units is available all year round, even in the hottest of summers.
Seasonal heat storage in the IdealThermals concept is made in a way where the mass of clay, earth, sand, rock or other substance below a building, is heated in the summer to store it for the winter. The mass is insulated on the sides sloping downwards. Adequate distance to natural ground water must be sufficient for the system to operate.
This Solarus panel will be one of the important parts of the IdealThermals set of ideas, and it is expected to be commercially available during the course of 2011.

Microchip Technology's 14-member dsPIC33EP “GS” family of Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs) delivers the performance needed to implement more sophisticated non-linear, predictive and adaptive control algorithms at higher switching frequencies. These advanced algorithms enable power supply designs that are more energy efficient and have better power supply specifications. Higher switching frequencies enable the development of physically smaller power supplies that offer higher densities and lower costs. Compared with the previous generation of DSCs, the new dsPIC33EP “GS” devices provide less than half the latency, when used in a three-pole three-zero compensator, and consume up to 80% less power in any application.
This new dsPIC33EP “GS” family includes advanced features such as Live Update Flash capability, which is especially helpful for high-availability or “always-on” systems. Live Update can be used to change the firmware of an operating power supply, including the active compensator calculation code, while maintaining continuous regulation. Variants from this new digital-power-optimized DSC family are available in an industry’s-smallest, 4 x 4 mm UQFN package for space-constrained designs. Aside from being ideal conditions for windsurfing … what do wind, waves, and sun all have in common? They are all sources of renewable energy and each will be showcased at OMSI in a new permanent, bilingual exhibit officially opening January 17, 2013. Renewable Energy/ Energía Renovable invites OMSI visitors to learn about emerging sources of energy as well as consider the tradeoffs involved in using any energy source. Interactive exhibit pieces demonstrate how alternative technologies can be integrated into the existing power grid and how visitors’ individual energy choices affect the environment.
