Nice to talk whilst waiting.

Converted to monochrome.

Of course, almost all of London's buses are red. As there is a hill coming up, I think I'd rather be on the bus.

We did something that we have been talking about for years, that is, stop the car and take a photo of this bus.

I was not the only photographer there that morning as you may be able to see. I have no idea who he is. Was it you? :)

solar-powered sea slugs

Some sacoglossans simply digest the fluid which they suck from the algae, but in some other species, the slugs sequester and use within their own tissues living chloroplasts from the algae they eat, a very unusual phenomenon known as kleptoplasty, for the "stolen" plastids.[5] This earns them the title of the "solar-powered sea slugs", and makes them unique among metazoan organisms, for otherwise kleptoplasty is known only among single-celled protists. I was looking at the reflections and then I saw some white birds. Closer inspection revealed they were royal spoonbills.

This array of parabolic dishes was set up in 1981 to collect and concentrate solar energy that in turn produced superheated steam to drive a power generator. The power station was shut down in 2005 and is preserved now as part of Australia's industrial heritage.

Man made trees for Art Week Gallery

An imposing canopy of artificial trees up to 50 meters is high towering over a vast urban oasis.

The colossal solar-powered supertrees are found in the Bay South garden: it is part of a 250-acre landscaping project -- Gardens by the Bay -- that is an initiative from Singapore's National Parks Board that sees the cultivation of flora and fauna from foreign lands.

The man-made mechanical forest consists of 18 supertrees that act as vertical gardens, generating solar power, acting as air venting ducts for nearby conservatories, and collecting rainwater. To generate electricity, 11 of the supertrees are fitted with solar photovoltaic systems that convert sunlight into energy, which provides lighting and aids water technology for the conservatories.

That wheel is turning very slowly, so it probably needs a boost from the solar panel. 😁

Urban Light is a 2008 large-scale assemblage sculpture by Chris Burden that stands in front of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The installation consists of 202 restored street lamps from the 1920s and 1930s. Most of them once lit the streets of Southern California.

The cast iron street lamps are of 17 styles, which vary depending on the municipality that commissioned them. They range from about 20 to 30 feet (6 to 9 meters), are painted a uniform grey and placed, forest-like, in a near grid. The lights are solar powered and switched on at dusk. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Susan Freudenheim described the restored lamps as displaying "elaborate floral and geometric patterns" at the base, with "fluted shafts and glass globes that cap them...meticulously cleaned, painted and refurbished to create an exuberant glow.

"What is a soul? It's like electricity - we don't really know what it is, but it's a force that can light a room."

This photo was taken in 2013 during my previous Project 365…please visit my album for this “REMASTERED” Project 365 as I revisit each day of 2013 for additional photos to share!!

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D5200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

Ellivro Thgirw dreamed of building his own flying contraption. He finally came up with a plausible plan and moved into the construction phase staging his machine in a huge parking lot. What he found though was that no matter how fast he flapped the multiple rows of wings, his contraption would not become airborne. He finally had to give up due to a lack of funding.

It wasn't until much later that Ellivro realized what the problem was. He had forgotten to unbolt his flying machine from it's temporary supports. However, by the time he understood his error, the flying machine had been repurposed for use as a source of solar energy.

Today we are staying at Tonopah, Nevada. North-west of the town is a 110 megawatt solar thermal power plant called Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project. It will start operating later this year. The anticipated to cost is a bit less than $1 billion.

This solar power plant can operate 24/7 - hot salt in a big tank stores energy for use at night. A truly large-scale project. An overview video explains it.

The title is a play on a tail. The fossil fuel industry is riding on government subsidies and misses the boat. The renewable energy industry is smart and leaping ahead.

I climbed up a big sand dune to get a good vantage point. Walking barefoot was the easiest to get up on the dune. You see my steps at the crest.

Solar Impulse, a solar aircraft just landed at Moffett Federal Airfield at NASA Ames in Mountain View, California.

Yesterday we went to San Francisco to watch the aircraft fly over the Golden Gate Bridge. We had a nice picnic a Crissy Field. Solar Impulse was flying quite high.

Founders Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg want us to use more clean energies. Or in their word, push the transition to renewable energy resources. Very inspiring!

The aircraft has a wingspan bigger than a Boeing 747, but weights just 2 tons instead of 400 tons. More info on this historic flight at www.solarimpulse.com
