We’re here visiting circles. These little discs line our driveway and light up at night. They work really well.
Water is brought to the site in 30G recycled juice drums then pumped into a 275G storage tank, seen on the right, using the shurflo transfer pump running off a solar charged battery. You can see the charge controller mounted to the wall. Most of the wiring seen goes up the wall to convenience switches.
Future plans call for some fusing, a higher rate pump, and a externally accessible spigot with PVC piping indoors.

I find it interesting that in over 50 years, solar power has not progressed much beyond novelties and spacecraft. More about Rexall and other things you can't buy anymore from 1962 at Roadtrip-'62.

Renewable Energy/ Energía Renovable invites OMSI visitors to learn about emerging sources of energy as well as consider the tradeoffs involved in using any energy source. Interactive exhibit pieces demonstrate how alternative technologies can be integrated into the existing power grid and how visitors’ individual energy choices affect the environment.

Mariam Badjie from The Gambia was trained to become a barefoot solar engineer at the Barefoot College in India. Mariam returned in May, 2007 to solar electrify her community in The Gambia.
Mariama only speaks Jola, a local dialect. She is 44 years old, a mother of four, married to a farmer and illiterate. She comes from a small village, Cafenke, of about 45 houses. She says she likes to learn new things and that it’s never too late to start.
Besides learning all about solar electrification in her 6 months of training at the College, she learned many Hindi words and through her friendship with the Bolivian women even started learning Spanish words. In her spare time, she began to study the alphabet and with the help of her new friends she learned how to sign her name.
A week of activities organized around World Environment Day is helping to draw attention to the environment in carbon heavy Uzbekistan.

One of the priorities of the Government of Uzbekistan is to establish and develop rural health clinics, as part of its national policy on primary health care.
In response, UNDP helped to outfit four rural health clinics to become energy-efficient, including the use of solar energy, improving the reliability of power and heating.
The majority of rural health clinics in Uzbekistan face problems with interruptions to power and heating which negatively impact the quality of medical services.

The MobE kiosk project was conceived by Jack Newman in City Light’s Conservation Resources Division and funded by the utility’s Green Up program. Green Up allows customers to invest in additional green energy from regional renewable energy generation sites by adding a small amount of money to their bill. Green Up also funds local solar energy demonstration projects as well as outreach and education for renewable energy
