"Essay about the Smooth and the Striated" by Hector Zamora (part of the "Disponible – A Kind of Mexican Show" exhibit), San Francisco Art Institute, Russian Hill District, San Francsico CA
One of a pair of large smooth stingrays that joined me in the shallow water beneath Bicheno’s jetty recently. For 30 minutes these gentle, inquisitive creatures manoeuvred the limited space between the pylons, as well as over and around me.
We found this Smooth Newt while digging the new Kingfisher bank on the sheltered lagoon. We think this may be a pregnant female as it is very large around the middle so could be full of eggs.
While in Kent with my daughter & grandaughter we visited the Wingham Wildlife Park near Canterbury. A very compact park with not much walking - thankfully.
The smooth coated otters are an important species for Wingham Wildlife Park, being one of a handful of zoos in Europe keeping them. Their original female came from the Rare Species Conservation Centre, being of Cambodian decent. They imported a male from Saigon Zoo in Vietnam in January 2013 to ensure he was genetically unique to the current European population. The male was imported as part of a species exchange which saw a pair of ring tailed lemurs being sent to sunny Vietnam.
River Garry in Perthshire taken with a longer exposure to smooth out the water flow and create interesting patterns.
We stopped for lunch at High Bank, where I was able to use my telescope. This group of Otters were visible on the far bank of the river, but were a long way off. (Telescope and camera on full magnification.) Despite the distance and haze you can see that they're pretty big (compare with the River Lapwing just visible in the foreground) and were almost certainly Smooth-Coated.
November 6, 2017 - Working into the dark and after the 7pm noise curfew on smoothing the first parking level concrete in P2.
A portrait of one of my friends from college. The photo was taken with my Nikon F100 using Ilford HP-5 ISO 400 black and white film.
I didn't happen upon a photo shoot or anything, this was just a guy and his car on the street in Tribeca.
I wanted to take some of the black mass out of his suit so I though I could introduce some gray if I tried black & white. If there's gray in there I couldn't find it.
By the way, I'm thinking that's a '55 or '56 Ford Thunderbird.

This is the seasons temporary outdoor ice skating rink on the Steenplein. After the days skating is over, it is time to brush the ice smooth again. Because of the unusual warm winter weather it takes a lot of energy to maintain this open air ice skating rink.
