While the jagged edges of the rocky outcrop known as Reynisdrangar proudly contrast with the surrounding smoothness, it doesn't take much to imagine that soon the eroding power of the North Atlantic Ocean will simply turn them back into fine material for this spectacular black sand beach. This is my 4th remake of this view. Ever since I found it many years ago I have been to this location as often as I could. It takes some time to get there but for me it is heaven on earth. By a fast boat you need around 20-30 minutes to reach the island from the closest town. You will find many of my seascapes captured here.
I can not accurately describe in words what attracts me to this view but I feel a tremendous pull into this scene. It visually sucks me in and fascinates me.
I visited the island this time on a rainy day for the first time. The rocks are very slippery due to the rain (check the raindrops in the water). I could barely stand stand still where I was and the tripod had almost no support. Luckily there was no wind though and the image turned out reasonably sharp.
If you compare this with the other takes you will find some very noticeable differences in light, technique and color. This 4th take is much more moody due to the pale sky and the black and wet rock. There are almost no colors in the scene with a nice exception of the green seaweed in the front water and the orange lichen on the rocks.
I had not visited the location for about 2 years and I was full of anticipation getting back. In spite of (or perhaps because of) the bad weather I was thrilled to walk the old paths again. Does this 4th take bring anything new? Maybe. Maybe not. It does not really matter to me. I just had to do it and I wanted to share it with you - again.

Just as the river smooths the stones, so, life passing by, has a way of smoothing our rough edges. :)

A ubiquitous bird in much of South America. It is found nearly anywhere there are open grassy areas and thus flourishes in cultivated areas such as pastures. Not an animal you'd normally find in the middle of the Amazon rainforest but a good number of them had made themselves at home in the clearing where the field station was located.
No matter what he did he couldn't be away from where she hangs out. So we went there. And I watch him wait for her. So instead of hanging out in the shadows, he left to find his Love. Now they are together.
All I can say is... damn I look good in this picture. ROFL
Back in Georgetown after a long, long day of traveling yesterday. I have so many images to go through still, but I was able to edit a few while I was still in the jungle. The purpose of my short trip was to participate in a training program with Conservation International-Guyana to teach monitoring and identifiacation methods for reptiles and amphibians to members of the Protected Areas Commission, students from the University of Guyana, and local members of Yupukari Village.
During a short night river survey, we found this juvenile Smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus) which I brought back to camp to show the rest of the group in the morning. When I released it afterwards, I hopped into the water to capture a few images. Just a few snaps before it was off on its way!
This was a little cascade I found near Big Creek that was in my last photo. I loved the smoothness of the water here. What a beautiful place this was.

sculptural element on the terrace of the Casa Milà (la Pedrera) in Barcelona, built by Antoni Gaudi in the spirit of the modernisme in the early 20th century.
There was a magic fascination for me when i walked between the sculptures on the roof top of the Casa Milà ...i just wanted to nestle against the warm stone and dream away...
