Here My friend Erin given the fiber treatment.

On a cold evening A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' sits quietly on shed at Grosmont, the support crew cleaning the fire and getting the loco bedded down

DB Class 044 three-cylinder 'Jumbo' 2-10-0s Nos.044 143-6, and behind 044 527-0, awaiting their next duties from Ehrang depot, near Trier, on 23rd April 1972. Present 'on shed' during this Sunday visit were 49 steam locomotives, of which 26 were actually in steam. During my time wandering leisurely around the motive power depot, a mixed freight hauled by another Class 044 arrived in the adjacent yard from the south and two further 'Jumbos' and two Class 023 2-6-2s headed south away from Ehrang as light engines. 044 143-6, built by Krauss-Maffei in München in 1938, and was withdrawn from Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck depot on 22nd December 1975.

I don't understand how sea lions can sleep so peacefully on sharp rocks with waves breaking over them and constant barking from their fellow sea lions ringing in their ears. While I am envious of their sleeping ability, I am glad I am not a sea lion!

The Time Has Come

Hush in your bedroom, dark tranquil.

resting your weary head until

lethargy comes and all is still.

Singing a lullaby,

Thoughts of tomorrow will safely keep.

Gently you're sinking, oh so deep.

I think, my love, you're falling asleep.

Singing a lullaby.

Once there was a way to get back homeward

Once there was a way to get back home

Sleep pretty darling do not cry

And I will sing a lullaby

Golden slumbers fill your eyes

Smiles awake you when you rise

Sleep pretty darling do not cry

And I will sing a lullaby

Toad Hole Cottage at How hill in Norfolk the other morning

Trees, having a winter break...

Saturday, 6 January, 2018

On my way home from a shopping spree, I have to turn up into this road with these two beautiful trees. I thought they looked lovely with the setting sun behind them. (There is a flock of fieldfare to the left of shot.)

The weather and the light haven’t been very good, this weekend, so I thought I’d post an image from last weekend. Apparently, snow is on the way. I’ve booked a hotel in the town where I work - maybe get back home on Thursday, with any luck...

Lennon & McCartney - Elbow version (2017)

Class 45 diesel locomotive No. 45119 rests at London's St Pancras station, probably sometime in 1980.

For enthusiasts of a certain age, a trip to London back then almost inevitably included a tour of the major termini, especially those that saw the most loco-hauled action. It was on one such occasion that I shot this photograph. St Pancras has changed quite a bit since this time but the splendour of the architecture, courtesy Messrs Barlow and Scott, endures.

So, you're feeling unimportant,

'Cuz you've got nothing to say.

And your life is just a ramble

No one understand you anyway

Well, I got a piece of news son,

That might make you change your mind

Your life is historically meaningfull

And spans a significant time

Slumber will come soon

And you are helping to put it to sleep

Side by side we do our share

Faithfully assuring that

Slumber will come soon.

Well, now do you feel a little better

Lift up your head and walk away

Knowing we're all in this togeter

For such a short time anyway

There is just no time to parade around

Sulking, i would rather laugh than cry

The rich, the poor, the strong, the weak

We share this place together

And we pitch into help it die

I'm not too good at giving morals

And I don't fear the consequence

If life makes you scred and bitter

At least it's not for very long

Slumber will come soon.
