On debris in an overgrown allotment.

When I introduced 8 month old Moustache last Caturday, I mentioned that he was wearing an e-collar because he lost a fight with the big black cat who lives next door. What I failed to mention, was that it was the SECOND time he had lost a fight with the big black cat who lives next door.

Can anyone say, "dumb as dirt"?

*No dumb kittens were harmed in the making of this photograph. All Pasta had to do was turn around and give Moustache the evil eye and he beat a hasty retreat.

**Actually, I had to lift Moustache off the treatment table since he couldn't beat a hasty retreat with an e-collar on.

Benefits of Slowing Down

There are lots of reasons to slow down:

Better focus. When you slow down, you can focus better. It’s hard to focus if you’re moving to fast.

Deeper focus. Rushing produces shallowness, because you never have time to dig beneath the surface. Slow down and dive into deeper waters.

Better appreciation. You can really appreciate what you have, what you’re doing, who you’re with, when you take the time to slow down and really pay attention.

Enjoyment. When you appreciate things, you enjoy them more. Slowing down allows you to enjoy life to the fullest.

Less stress. Rushing produces anxiety and higher stress levels. Slowing down is calmer, relaxing, peaceful.

The Jungfrau railway

(German: Jungfraubahn)

which runs 9 kilometres from Kleine Scheidegg and from there to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch (3,454 m),

between the Bernese Oberland and Valais.

The railway runs almost entirely within a tunnel built into the Eiger and Mönch mountains and contains two stations in the middle of the tunnel, where passengers can disembark to observe the neighbouring mountains through windows built into the mountainside.

The open-air section culminates at Eigergletscher (2,320 m), which makes it the second highest open-air railway in Switzerland

At sunrise everything is luminous but not clear. It is those we live with and love and should know who elude us. You can love completely without complete understanding.

As I lay down in wet grass and leaf litter to make this image I start to realize that this scene speaks to me. It speaks in a way I would not have understood before. A little over 1 year ago I invited Jesus into my life. I gave him my heart and he made me a new one. Because of what he did on that cross for us I was able to take off the old me and be made new. The Cicada has taken off the old Cicada and is new. But it is still sitting there , it has everything it needs to complete its life as the new creation it has become and in just a while it will be doing that. This reminds me of Repentance. Change takes time. Its a slow fade and takes persistence but if we keep trying Jesus is there for us to help us and guide us. The biggest battle of my life has been the last few years.

I am proud of the man I am now.

In James 4:7 it says , Resist the devil and he will flee from you. I like the very next bit. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. THAT is exactly what has happened for me. He has been all I have had for a long time. For my non believer friends I don't mean to be pushing anything on you. Please understand that.

Slow wandering ↟ ↟ ↟

Slow down your pace to at least half speed, slower if you can. Feel your feet touching the ground. Look at the ground. How much more do you see at this pace? This is a very different way of moving about the world. There is no need to speed up. Everything you need is right here.

Walking back down the beach after sunset....I stopped at this spot to capture the water coming up on the sand. I used a 3 stop neutral density filter to allow for a slower shutter speed to slow the motion of the waves.

one step at a time

This photo was inspired by Rick’s (a Flickr friend) comment on a photo of mine titled “Light” where he mentioned the idea of sharing photos of the contents of my sketchbook. Honestly, I don’t consider anything in my sketchbook as sketches but instead doodles. The concept and idea behind this doodle was important for me a few years ago when I made it and today when I see it there is still great importance in this message to myself. It is a good reminder to work at being a little more gentle with myself especially now as I’m struggling intensely with the effects of experiencing devastating trauma even after many years of therapy and hard work. That even though it feels like I’m getting nowhere there actually is noticeable improvement (due to lots of deep, hard work) and that by taking the next “small” step and doing basic things is what adds up in great ways over time. This is how I’ve survived when survival seemed/still seems impossible and/or undesirable—taking the next breath, crying a tear, doing some doodling, doing my routine of walking in the morning, taking a few pictures, spending time with my husband and children, looking for light, eating even a small meal, taking a shower, taking a small drink of water, getting out of bed in the morning, listening to some music, stepping outside for a while, and many other things. Even though I easily become angry with myself, it seems like I should be more productive, functioning better and further along in my healing and growth. This journey of growth cannot be rushed—it’s ok to grow and heal at my own pace. Slowly grow…one step at a time.

[I think I made this doodle sometime in 2019 and used a micron pen and watercolor paint]
