Purple Moorhen (Porphyrio poliocephalus) - is a species of swamphen occurring from the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent to southern China and northern Thailand.

WONDERFUL FACTS - The Slow Loris is one of the rarest primates.
Their closest relative is the African bush babies.
Slow Lorises may be slow, but they can travel around 8 kilometers in one night.
They are related to monkeys, apes and humans 🐾

Taken under my apple tree, the colours in the background are from the fallers which the blackbirds are slowly working their way through.
Later than last year the trees are showing their first green, sunny but chilly is the theme of April. Hiking is fun, but a warm jacket is still required. Dehme, Ostwestfalen, Germany
This shot was taken from a ferry leaving Buenos Aires towards Colonia. They are located within the port, just a few hundred meters from the Museum of the Immigrant and not far from Puerto Madero, the newest part of Buenos Aires that is being developed on top of recovered old port buildings and terrain gained to the Rio de la Plata.

A small little swallow that is mostly flying around. The birds are just out of their breeding season and hence there are good numbers now. They tend to congregate together and we saw several making slow flight over the fields seemingly enjoying the breeze.
The birds grab insects while flying - something we noticed happening in front of us too. But couldn't get a shot of since the breeze picked up shortly thereafter.

Looking back we had such a strange week in Scotland. At some stage in every day, normally late afternoon the wind would completely die down and the nearby sea or loch would become totally calm. I don't think I've ever seen such still bodies of water so often. It was a magnificent Slow Show by The National. It's so hard to resist Stac Pollaidh, my only companions here were thousands of toads, singing away.
C&A makes its twice weekly run down to Elizabeth City, NC, passing the grain elevators in Shawboro, NC. 2 years ago, you would not have seen any orange G&W locomotives on this line. Instead, you would have been treated to 2 GP7 in C&A and SCRF paint, but in 2023 you can now see the slow transition to the G&W company's livery on GP38 locomotives, the new normal in 2023.
Away For The Season...
A brisk hike in the cold autumn air,. you can feel fall slipping away and winter slowly creeping in; the temperatures over the past two weeks has steadily dropped and today was no exception.
The maintenance staff at the park have already winter preparations under way; they have stacked picnic tables and dragged all the canoes off to the back of the shed for winter storage.
