It was quite startling to look down and see this big snake slithering in the mud. Largest I've ever seen. Unlike water snakes, male rat snakes are larger than females. I'd hate to be a rat with this coming my way. For me, it was just a beautiful awesome sight.

A northbound empty export coal train (183N) from Seward is seen snaking north along the shore of Turnagain Arm in this view looking down from above MP 97 of the Alaska Railroad mainline. They are rounding Beluga Point and approaching the McHugh Creek wayside area in Chugach State Park with the standard six SD70MACs on the head end. This train would have gone to Seward in a 3x3 DPU set up with 70 loads, but they returned all on the head end with only two or three on line.

This train is unusual in that it has a string of tank cars on the head end most likely from Shoreside Petroleum, an occasional customer at the time. Slithered down the waterfall laden moss and rock bank to get a closer view of the amount of water going through this little canyon.

Really spectacular with the amount of water flowing right now - especially with the little rainbow in the mist over the bridge

This was the only train from our time in the Twin Ports region where we truly had to contend with bad weather and frankly it yielded some really great shots, including this one which is one of my favorites from the trip.

The morning Proctor yard crew is taking a string of empties down to the waterfront for limestone loading at Hallett Dock. CN SD40-2W 5318 and C40-8s 2000 and 2007 are on the very south end of the old DMIR main at about MP 0.3 on what is modern day CN's North Division Missabe Subdivision mainline. Having pulled east to clear the switch, they then got permission from BNSF's 28th Street yardmaster in Superior and have started their reverse move snaking down beneath Dock 6 and abandoned Dock 5 to where they will drop their train for the Hallett switcher.

This is a railroad that needs no introduction to even the most casual fan as the old Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway is in a word legendary. I won't bore you with pages of history as I couldn't do the road or region justice anyway. It simply needs to be experienced for oneself. But I will direct you to two resources. Absolutely check out the fabulous historical information here: www.missabe.com/

A slither of fabulous northern pebbledash and a painted wooden fence. Compliment each other perfectly:)

During the Very early part of the morning, we are up and waiting for an Eastbound coal load! It didn't take long before the train came through at a very slow rate of speed as it climbs the grade with the throttle wide open. Taken in Sully Springs, ND.

I found this little snake while walking the dog tonight. It's a rough earth snake which are native to southeast Texas and other southeastern states. They're not that big (about 10 inches maybe) and are harmless.

I was taking a chance holding it in the house, however. If it got loose I'm pretty sure my wife would divorce me, harmless not.

Heavy winter clouds over Felpham with a slither of light shinning through.

The one on the left is about to shed it`s skin.

Lasalle, Quebec.

I Managed to get down to that London for 2 days Friday and Saturday looking for architectural stuff, underground stations and the odd MI5 building! oh yes and a couple of spiral staircases too.

This one is from Canary Wharf and was just what I had in mind. A few adjustments in lightroom and Silver Efex Pro with around 40 control points to get the light how I wanted it. Let me have your thoughts!

If you're thinking of going down there be aware security is the tightest I've ever seen. No tripods allowed anywhere on Canary Wharf as its private property. Had to show ID and was questioned several times but all in all the security men are OK once they establish your a hobbyist photographer, not doing it for commercial gain or anything sinister, in fact we showed a couple of them some stuff we took in Prague and they were quite complementary tbh! They are just protecting the place which is understandable in light of recent events!

An Ogden to Roseville manifest train slithers west through the blackened Feather River Canyon at Rich Bar, California. The train is seen passing through Tunnel 25. At under 200’ in length, Tunnel 25 is one of the shorter tunnels along this route.

Much of this region was severely damaged by the 2021 Dixie Fire. Originally sparked by a tree contacting power lines, the Dixie Fire burned over 900,000 acres (1,500 square miles) and destroyed more than 1,000 structures. Railroad infrastructure was damaged as well, briefly halting operations and requiring the construction of new bridges and signals.

The high severity burn left many hillsides void of life. This has become problematic as flash floods and mudslides have impacted the region over recent months. Through all of this, Union Pacific has managed to keep trains moving along the Canyon Subdivision. The hard-working railroaders in these mountains truly are the “Pride of the Sierras”.

Today's sequence of pictures show the rather gruesome but fascinating sight of a paradise flying snake consuming a gecko. Firstly the hapless lizard was constricted, then swallowed whole until the snake then slithered off across the beach to find a shady spot out of the way to consume its meal.

Paradise tree snake or paradise flying snake, Chrysopelea paradisi, is a species of snake found in southeastern Asia. It can, like all species of its genus Chrysopelea, glide by stretching the body into a flattened strip using its ribs. It is mostly found in moist forests and can cover a horizontal distance of 10 meters or more in a glide from the top of a tree. Slow motion photography shows an undulation of the snake's body in flight while the head remains relatively stable, suggesting controlled flight. They are mildly venomous with rear fangs and also can constrict their prey, which consists of mostly lizards and bats.

Murmur - whisper to me

Slithering fantasies of cleaning bones, lucid dreams

Yearning to become real

The luscious slitting of throats, what fantasy?

These fictions so corporal so obtuse

Restricting me, frustrating me

The fictions so morbid seem foretold

Digging in the psyche

No theory, no medication, no session

Can shed light upon the monster I am told to become

No theory, no medication, obsession

The smell of blood, the soothing of the pain mine

A medical condition? No, merely purpose

Decrepit wits in a mind mine

These fictions so corporal so obtuse

Restricting me, frustrating me

The fictions so morbid seem foretold

Release the rage in me

Set in motion the first kill

Adrenaline, rushing me

The fictions so morbid fulfilled

Release the real in me

Swing the axe, hang the rope

The tales of my coming painted in a spree of gore

Do say your prayers, they shall be answered

By the cutting of blades as your insides are drained

No longer murmurs - in thy decrepit wits

A spree of murder - unleash my insanity

Meticulous plan, the fruition of years of mental disorder

A spree of terror, the canvas of decay

Left behind for them to find, in perspicuity

Murmurs - whisper to me

Slithering fantasies of cleaning bones, lucid dreams

Yearning to become real

The luscious slitting of throats, what fantasy?

Song: A Murmur In Decrepit Wits

Song 8 Day 8 of 30 Songs in 30 days

A female slow worm (Anguis fragilis), moving not particularly slowly across a path on the North York Moors. Seeing this little reptile at the end of a walk near the Hole Of Horcum a few weeks ago was a great bonus. It is the first time I have ever seen a live one, having only spotted a few dead slow worms over the years. I must admit, I was surprised by how quickly this little legless lizard moved across the path and grabbing a properly focused shot without too much motion blur was quite tricky, this was the only acceptably sharp one of the 6 frames I managed to get before she slithered off into the heather. I was also impressed with the sleek glossiness and colours, all the dead ones I had seen before had probably been dead for some time, so rather dull grey/brown by comparison.

Across The Universe

The Beatles

Words are flowing out

Like endless rain into a paper cup

They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe

Pools of sorrow waves of joy

Are drifting through my opened mind

Possessing and caressing me

Jai Guru Deva, Om

Nothing's gonna change my world

Nothing's gonna change my world

Nothing's gonna change my world

Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light

Which dance before me like a million eyes

They call me on and on across the universe

Thoughts meander like a

Restless wind inside a letter box

They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe

Jai Guru Deva, Om

Nothing's gonna change my world

Nothing's gonna change my world

Nothing's gonna change my world

Nothing's gonna change my world

Headed out last night with two great mates, to shoot the Milky Way. First time shooting this since 2013, and I was excited to say the least. We knew before we left that the tide was high at Cathedral Rock, but we took a chance and went anyhow.

Well, mother nature won that battle, and there was no (safe) way we were getting around the headland to shoot it. So, we took the safe option and shot from the beach, whilst enjoying the silence, and having a beer at midnight.

So, this is the shot I had in my head, and because of the lack of access, I've blended this image to fulfill my needs.

My main reason for going, was to see how the camera performed, and also my Sigma 35mm F1.4.

I was really happy with the outcome. Some togs say you shouldnt shoot stars that wide open, but I'm happy with the results, and it also allowed me to shoot at iso 1000 - iso 1600 which dramatically reduced the noise levels in the final image.

All in all, a great learning experience, and I now know what I need to do over the coming months, and Milky Way season in the Southern Hemisphere.

Hope you like "Across The Universe"

Cheers, Mike

.............that was the light this morning.

I was up at the top of Crank hill and spotted a slither of light making its way up this field so stuck my long zoom on and took a couple of shots.Made it into a pano to get rid of unwanted 'inclusions'.Only lasted a few seconds then it was gone.....

Thanks for looking,

Chris.
