Now here's a surprise: I didn't know that the Dutch railways once used slip coaches, like employed on some lines in the UK.

Sign on display in the Dutch railway museum, Utrecht.

Some googling gives an article by N.J. van Wijck Jurriaanse, eminance grise of the Dutch bashers, notes that this particular slip coach, once a day to Hilversum, was timetabled between 1895 and 1904. Another site notes the practice existed at Boxtel, too. A subject that deserves further investigating...

slip sliding away,

slip sliding away

you know the nearer your destination,

the more you slip sliding away

whoah and I know a man, he came from my hometown

he wore his passion for his woman like a thorny crown

he said dolores, I live in fear

my love for you is so overpowering,

I'm afraid that I will disappear

we're workin' our jobs, collect our pay

believe were gliding down the highway,

when in fact we're slip sliding away ...

score and slip, score and slip, lather, rinse, repeat.

An evening of fun on the slip-n-slide.

Seconds before slipping off the side. Happy days =P

etched version of "Slipping...". Plenty of mistakes.

Noah was having nothing to do with it. Anthony would run fast then slow down right before he got to the slide. He never slid far enough to make it to the splash pool at the bottom. Brought back some fun memories for me of our Double Racing Slip and Slide which was bright yellow with a blue center spray. -0001

1905 map of downtown Buffalo when the slips and Erie Canal were still in use. Commercial Slip is labeled.

If you look at Google Maps Satellite view of Buffalo's Waterfront, the Commercial Slip is NOT visible. That's been recently dug up. It's at the southish end of the navel park. The building I work in, I'm pretty sure, is built right on top of the old Colt Slip, with Slip #1 right out the back door, and Slip #2 on the other side of the Condos built outside the back door...

1/24/09 - Day 24 of Project 365. He was trying to throw a large section of snow, and it slipped out of his hands. I love the spray of snow crystals in this shot.
