SLACK ! Deux-Caps Art Festival 20 June to 20 September 2015 14 artist's installations 16 km of unusual walks 36 km of coast Un Grand Site de France After obtaining the Grand Site de France label in March 2011, the Département du Pas-de-Calais with artconnexion, is bringing together fourteen internationally renowned and young French artists: Jean-Daniel Berclaz, Julien Boucq, Frères Chapuisat, Marie Denis, Mark Dion, Nicolas Flocâh, Kenny Hunter, Vincent Lamouroux, Didier Marcel, Maria Montesi, Liliana Motta, Françoise Pétrovitch, Pierre Redon, Janusz Stega. The Département du Pas-de-Calais and artconnexion invites you to (re)-discover the Site des Deux-Caps, one of the fourteen Grands Sites de France: contemporary artists are creating works with regard to its geography, respond to its geological and cultural history, dialogue with its special beauty, and surprise everyoneâ inhabitants and visitors alike. Nature (be it wild, preserved or tamed), man (in particular the farmer, architect of landscapes, and the fisherman) as well as the heritage (of war, fishing, and building) are the three main themes of this new art event. Three pedestrian circuits offer the whole wealth of the landscapes of the Site des Deux-Caps: routes through traditional villages, views over the Baie de Wissant, Cap Blanc-nez, and Cap Griz-Nez, discovery of the Carrière du Phare, sweeping views of the Marais de Tardinghen, climbing dunes, a walk along the beach and cliffs... Works in the landscape by Liliana Motta and Didier Marcel mark the entrance and exit of the Site des Deux-Caps - and Mark Dionâs Mouette/Seagull, a mobile work, is installed in villages for traditional festivals (Mussel, Crab, Flobart...) and in natural places in the Site. A permanent work by the Scottish artist Kenny Hunter has been commissioned for the Maison du Site des Deux Caps as part of the New Patrons programme of the Fondation de France. A programme of events is planned throughout the summer â workshops, guided visits, evening screenings, walks with commentaries, barbecues,... * The New Patrons method of public art, initiated by the Fondation de France, enables those confronted with questions of society or local development to take the initiative of associating an artist with this process via the commissioning of an artwork. The originality lies in the collaboration of three players â the artist, the commissioner and the art mediator â with the support of public and private funding.

This hawk picked a perch that was just a bit too thin to support his/her weight. It took a while but eventually equilibrium was found and order was restored.

A number of contacts have recently been on trips down their memory lanes. This, together with several mentions of George Best on Gary's stream, prompted me to have another rummage around the attic.

This is my membership card from Slack Alice's, commonly known in Manchester as Slack's. Owned and frequented by George Best, the greatest footballer I have ever seen play live, it was a classic rather upmarket disco in which I spent far too many late nights and early mornings during the 1970's.

Rock your baby

There's nothin' to it

Just say you wanna do it

Open up your heart

And let the lovin' start

(Chorus)

Yeah, hold me tight

With all your might

Now let your lovin' flow

Real sweet and slow

I talked with this gentleman while he was taking a water break. He told me this was "slack-line walking", it is "Awesome" and when I asked him who was the best at it, he told me he was (and after watching, he was telling the truth). He was working on going from standing to sitting on the line and then do a handstand.

I'm too frustrated shooting rodeo at night under inadequate stadium lights. So, I went to Slack today. Enough light to satisfy my voracious lumen appetite. The only problem - no roughstock....

WEEK 46.2 – Horn Lake OfficeMax Closing, One Year Anniversary

Eh, I can't criticize these letter tray stackers of being slackers too much – more accurately, it's just that nobody bought them. This image from last Halloween shows that these things had been hanging on for quite some time, considering this branding look had changed to incorporate the more trendy minimalistic style and such with the rubberband ball logo. See here for examples, or, alternatively and more amusingly, here :P

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)

Great shot of me and Ken bursting out from under Beeches Road bridge with no 6990 'Witherslack Hall'. We had very dusty Welsh coal in the tender and the pressure was a bit slow to come round after standing for an hour in the station but once the engine got hot she steamed like a dream - and sounded great too.

Under normal conditions, the Assiniboine River is a slow, meandering waterway, but recent rains (and snow to the west) has resulted in a more turbulent flow.

This male wood duck found a place to rest in more slack water near shore. The early morning light was sublime today, but there is more rain in the forecast for the rest of the weekend :(

Walking along the beaches of LA is quite an experience. There is no such thing as a tall poppy syndrome in the good old city of angels, and definitely no shortage of self confidence. This guy was one of a group of kids absolutely going hell for leather on the slack line. A slack line is basically a "slack" tight-rope a few feet from the ground. It is a feat to even balance and walk on one, let alone flip in the air like this dude. Shrinking violets need not apply as the whole beach is watching!!

Thanks a lot for watching, commenting and awarding my picture!!!
