Het optreden van Rebekka Karijord was wat mij betreft het hoogtepunt van de eerste dag op het Walk the Line festival. De Noorse singer-songwriter begon enigszins schuchter en onzeker aan haar set in De Zwarte Ruiter, maar vond snel haar draai en leverde samen met haar drummer en gitarist een stel prachtige luisterliedjes met een scherp randje af. Daarbij begeleidde ze zichzelf op miniharp en piano. Ze deed me een beetje denken aan Nina Kinert, maar Karijords podiumpresentatie was volwassener en aanstekelijker. Het aanwezige publiek bleef aandachtig luisteren, in de ban van haar bijzondere, bezwerende stem. Op de dag van haar optreden in Den Haag verscheen ook haar solo-album The Noble Art of Letting Go in Nederland, met daarop het prachtige nummer "Wear It Like a Crown".
Classic rock artist McMains has gotten some momentum and attention with the release of his newest music video on YouTube “Since I Started Loving You”. A wonderful song with lyrics that is reminiscent of Eric Church with the classic sound of calm lounge.
This is a track that left us feeling soothed by with the soft notes from McMains beautiful grand piano playing accompanied by his soulful voice and well constructed lyrics. McMains didn’t stop there, his creative perspective also gave us a beautiful love story of a king and his queen that is encapsulated in this video. With amazing video effects and transitions played over by the easy and enjoyable sounding tune we can’t help but be impressed by what we have just seen. An easy listen to say the least you’ll leave the song feeling like you’ve got the full idea of what McMains’ message behind the music.

David Gahr (1922 -2008)
Photographer David Gahr has died. The obituary from The New York Times is here. Gahr is one of those photographers whom I had 'never heard of' although I had seen his work again and again. He specialized in taking pictures of musicians and you will have seen his work if you are at all engaged in listening to music - Bruce Springstein, Laura Nyro, Bob Dylan, Charles Mingus, Gillian Welch, Miles Davis, John Lennon. In all likelihood you've seen Gahr's photographs of one or more of these folks.
