For October 2011, Anna Nalick booked three performances, including one in downtown San Diego, at Anthology. These shows were to introduce some brand-new songs Anna had just written, and to give her time to mingle with fans before her upcoming trip to France.

I decided to attend the San Diego show; although I had seen Anna sixteen times before, I had not seen her out-of-town.

This was a Halloween-themed show; Anna wore a costume she called "Marie Antoinette in underwear," while attendees were asked (via Facebook and Twitter) to come in a costume as well. (Yours truly sported a 1920s flapper look - and it was a suggestion from none other than Anna herself.)

Last week I had an awesome time photographing local singer/songwriter and soon-to-be-Berklee-School-of-Music-grad Liz Longley. She's a mixture of Patty Griffin, Sara Bareilles, with a touch of Jewel, Allison Krauss and a dash of Sarah Mclachlan.

While we were shooting, she was doing some rehersals for her sold out performance at Studio 99 here in Nashua, and she blew me away with her voice.

We're going to hopefully be working together a bit before she heads on to Nashville this fall, and we've already got a location shoot booked once the weather gets warmer.

I had an absolutely awesome time photographing her, and then being able to listen to her concert at Studio 99. I'm also looking forward to a great professional relationship with her in the future.

More proof images can be seen here.

Justin Townes Earle is a fine singer/songwriter...and has a small recurring role in Treme, a David Simon show on HBO that is much better than the overhyped "The Wire." And just as good as the first season of "Homicide."

Here is a California photographer, holding an autographed album by a California singer-songwriter, standing under the California Republic Bear Flag.

And this piece of California is smack in the midst of New York City's Rockefeller Center. The ice rink is surrounded by flags from all 50 states.

This autographed Anna Nalick CD is traveling with me as a good luck travel charm. For the record, this is my first time back in New York City since Anna came on to the scene, as my most recent previous visit had been in 2004 which had involved just a very quick night, and prior to that, I had not spent any significant amount of time in NYC since 1998.

Having this photo taken at Rockefeller Center is also appropriate, as back in 1994, this was the site of my first-ever in-person meeting with a favorite musician of mine, Mariah Carey. I would end up unable to hang out with my favorite musicians in person until 2006 - and when that spell was broken, it was none other than Anna Nalick. To bring a bit of Anna to Rockefeller brings everything around full circle for me.

I would top this in March 2014 - by actually coming to New York City at the same time as one of Anna's shows, then being there.

Elliott James Murphy Jr., born 1949, grew up in nearby Garden City, started playing the guitar at 12 years old.

He began writing songs while singing on the streets of Europe in 1971.

His music was post-Bob Dylan poetic rock heavily influenced by New York's Velvet Underground and propelled by Murphy's driving electric guitar, harmonica and, occasionally, keyboards. After four albums on major labels Murphy was one of the first American artists to go independent (by both choice and necessity) with the release of the EP Affairs (1980) that sold well in Europe and set the stage for the successful Murph the Surf (1982).
