Plant Simulation provides a lockout zone object that allows discrete-event simulation models to observe and manage the failures of a group of stations or machines. The lockout zone displays a model state of "stopped” when at least one station in the lockout zone has failed.

(Simulation: Christian Reinboth)

One of the goals of volcanology is to understand the hazards entailing by the active volcanoes of the world. Currently, we resort to computer modelling to comprehend how, where and when eruptions and their related volcanic hazards could take place.

The most common simulated volcanic hazard is lava flows. In this study we have developed an algorithm based on a statistical analysis of geochemical data of lavas. This algorithm allows determining which will be the most probable expected compositions of lava flows for the future eruptions in El Hierro Island (Canary Archipelago).

Simulation day for

Urgent care simulation in Clinical Management and Pharmacology III course

This image shows two students in the University of Michigan School of Nursing class in Second Life. Behind the students, you see the supervising faculty members, Michelle Aebersold and Dana Tschannen. In this exercise, the students discover a problem in the patient's care, and roleplay the necessary communication skills to resolve the problem and prevent its reoccurrence.

United Nations Model at PAHO Headquarters, Washington, DC, Thursday, 14 November.

Close to 200 high school children participate and debate at the PAHO/HQ building.

The UN Model is an educational simulation and academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. It involves teaching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

PAHO has been hosting the meeting for many years.

This year session will also include the participation of our colleagues from Adolescent Health Area.

These are reference images I'm using to test my new Velvia 100 RVP Film Simulation presets.

It's pretty well nailed down. With DMAX increases to Greens and Reds, and careful attention to how Velvia F used to make Reds orange and Yellows green, I made the adjustsments to reflect with known parameters of Velvia 100 RVP.

Like RVP, lighting conditions, exposures and subjects work differently with this simulation, but I used this reference set of 16 images to really stress test the preset.

In some cases, only two of the sliders need to be adjusted to suit the shooting conditions which are Exposure and White settings.

White balance needs to be adjusted manually. RVP tends to have a coolish tendency to it's images (which kind of makes sense because projector lights tended to be warmer.

White balancing with this preset requires you find your optimal results and then pull back towards cool just a little bit.

Epidural Anaesthesia simulation model. ESA prize 2016. The complex skills involved with administering epidurals, such as locating optimal insertion point and needle angle, can only be learned by practice. However it can be dangerous for novice anaesthetists to practice their first epidural procedure on real patients. This simulator provides a training scenario whereby novice anaesthetists can practice needle insertions and visualise bony structures.
