Amongst the chaos of the mooring posts in Venice. I managaed to find this composition which I was pretty happy with.
I also have one space left on my Beara workshop has sold out but I still have two spaces left for Dublin. More details at www.rohanreilly.com/workshops. I will also be looking at adding workshops along the Copper coast in Waterford and the Anrtrim Coast too.
Also on a sadder note, I spent this day with Luca Cesari in Venice and over the weekend, he has had his Camera Bag stolen, amongst the equipment was a Canon 5D which has been converted to Infra red which arent very common. My friend, Sævar, held his birthday party in the highlands of Iceland, in Kjölur. We went on hiking in Hveradalir, Kerlingarfjöll, and as he walked faster than I and my friends he was already on the other side waving when we were taking pictures and slowly hiking in his footsteps.
Hveradalir geothermal Area is located in the Highlands, by Kjolur Highland Road, in Iceland. One of the largest geothermal areas in all of Iceland, Hveradalir offers hot springs you can view up close and others that can be admired from a safe distance. The site is surrounded by the rhyolite mountains of the Kerlingarfjoll range, making for some spectacular and colorful surroundings and excellent hiking opportunities. Situated by the volcanic mountain ridge of Kerlingarfjoll, Hveradalir draws its name from the many hot springs in the area. From smaller, bubbling mud pools to larger springs of steaming water, the site offers visitors a glimpse into the stunning complexities of Iceland's geology.
One of Hveradalir's main attractions is the many striking natural formations created by the geothermal energy coursing beneath the surface. The hot waters flowing through the ground have interacted with the minerals, causing chemical changes that often result in unique patterns and colors appearing in the rocks above. With East Broad Top Locomotive #12 "Millie", simmering on a siding with a hopper train, the "big-boilered" Mikado #16 brings a freight from Mt. Union, PA into the depot in Rockhill Furnace, on a warm spring day. Unfortunately, although #12 shows at least some signs of life in this image, the smoke you see was generated by a smoke bomb and the 12, which hasn't operated since the year 2000, is otherwise cold and quiet. There is hope for little "Millie" however. The new EBT Foundation does have plans to restore all of the surviving EBT Mikados, but it will be a few years before they get to #12. Hopefully, sometime in my lifetime, we'll be able to shoot this scene again, with "Millie" doing the run-by.
This image was captured during an April, 2023 photo shoot on the East Broad Top Railroad, which featured the newly-restored Locomotive #16. Smoke effects on the #12 were provided by the folks from Lerro Photography.
