Subdivision entrance sign by Strata. Belle Vue Square community received this high density urethane sign for their entrances. www.customoutdoorwoodensigns.com

I see the signmaker used full justification and forgot to turn off "show all formatting marks" in their editor.

This is the coat of arms of the Worsley family who used to own the nearby Appuldurcombe House.

Note: The Wyvern from this coat of arms also appears on the Griffin pub sign at Godshill, which is where the drive for the old family estate begins

Papa come quick, Jody's gone to the city

What we gonna do now that Jody's gone

She left a note on the TV and Papa it's a pity

What we gonna do now that Jody's gone.

Mama's been cryin in the kitchen since mornin

She cried right through As The World Turns

I seen it myself and papa it's a bitch'n

Let's haul ass before the baby gets burned.

Gas up the old Ford, get out the road map

They got a head start about half a day

Load up the shotgun, put it in the gunrack

Jody's with Chico down in East L.A.

It must have been that wild-eyed, silver-toungued schemer

A girl like Jody don't think for herself.

Him and that Harley and his damn Jalapena

Smokin that stuff'll make you hurt yourself.

Papa come quick

Papa come quick

Papa come quick

Papa come on

A cheap way to cover up a mistake. The signmaker mistook Attneave for Attneane!

Window display at a signmakers in East London

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of photos of geographically inaccurate maps of the Hawaiian islands. It's not simplification I'm annoyed by: the absence of Pearl Harbor is not all that bad, although odd given the detailed inclusion of the Mokapu Peninsula. It's more to do with the poor treatment of the islands themselves.

This is not a particularly bad one, but it was the first I found with camera in hand. First off, it has all eight islands, which is automatically better than some I've seen. Most of the islands are well-placed. There are, however, two notable exceptions.

The first is one of the more common I've seen and which I'll call the Niʻihau Shift. For some reason, people like moving Ni'ihau around, and in this case, it's migrated maybe 25 miles east and 5 miles south to tuck under Kauaʻi. What's odd is that the signmaker had plenty of room to keep Niʻihau in its proper place.

I would guess most people don't really notice the Niʻihau Shift because so few people live or visit the island. But the second problem affects more people: Molokaʻi has been rotated about 30º! My guess is that they did this so the island wouldn't be blocked by the E in Hooser, but they could have just moved the island chain up to solve that problem.

Okay, so the signmakers have a little trouble spelling Tibetan Temple.

Someone brought this from Minnesota. I'm assuming it's going to get repainted...
