I have another shot of Mario's here on Flickr, of the restaurant's front. This photo is of the side, where you enter.

Olympia Diner was manufactured by the Jerry O'Mahony Diner Company of New Jersey, which manufactured 2,000 metal pre-fab diner structures from 1917 to 1941. It is the longest stainless steel diner in the country. The current owners, the Gavrilis family have been there since 1974. Olympia Diner was originally opened in Massachusetts and brought to Newington, CT in 1954. #diner #vintage #neon #neongeeks #Signgeeks #retro #neonsign #stainlesssteel

We ate breakfast here twice while we were exploring Wildwood.....comfy old-school booths and charming interior, with darn good pancakes and terrific service. We'd definitely return.

Lenny's #Pizzeria was founded in 1953 and has been run by Frank Giordano and his family since 1983. Lenny’s Pizza became famous after it was used in a scene for the movie where the character played by John Travolta is seen ordering two slices of #pizza from Lenny’s, and eating them “double-decker” style, one piled on top of the other 🍕🍕. We love their #vintage #neon #sign and their pizza is great too! Photo and full interview with 2nd generation owner Josephine Giordano, appear in our book "New York Nights". #storefront #neonsign #neongeeks #signgeeks #typography #font #type #typevstime #signcollective #fontastic #dailytype #ig_signage #saturdaynightfever #johntravolta

On US 1; Melbourne, FL

The business began in 1915, Irving Leon took over the store in 1948; his son took over in 1971. When he died that signalled the end of the store, but the sign was still up when I took this photo. Haven't been back to downtown Hamilton in a while, so I don't know the current status of this sign.

SAD UPDATE: January 14, 2018....Twohey's will be gone by the end of the month! Lease renegotiations didn't work out. It's possible they will reopen in a new location, but that's unknown at this time.

Kissimmee, FL

It didn't have flashy bulbs or cool neon tubing, but it was a lovely old sign nonetheless. It's gone now, replaced with a modern, boring sign.

This small ‪#‎storefront‬ carries a wide variety of ‪#‎antique‬ ‪#‎jewelry‬, figurines, bric-a-brac, and assorted household items. We love the ‪#‎handpainted‬ ‪#‎sign‬, which is original. Evelyn told us that although "I've had it repainted two times, I am not going to touch it again because it now has great character. I love that it has faded and chipped areas from the rain and snow hitting it though the years." Photo from 2013 appears in our newly released book "Store Front II-A History Preserved" along with a full interview with Evelyn. ‪#‎tv_typography‬ ‪#‎tv_retrotype‬ ‪#‎type‬ ‪#‎typography‬ ‪#‎font‬ ‪#‎fontlove‬ ‪#‎signofgrime‬ ‪#‎typevstime‬ ‪#‎jj_typeiseverywhere‬ ‪#‎jj_texttypographical‬ ‪#‎signgeeks‬ ‪#‎signcollective‬

According to the Downtown Sanford web site, this building is circa 1925.

And we are always learning, aren't we? I just learned that the Fordson models were tractors, not cars; I never knew Ford produced farming equipment.

"The [Fordson] tractor was first built for export in 1916 and 1917 and introduced to American farmers in 1918. On a historical note, The Fordson tractor had revolutionized all creative ideas of tractor design and efficiency. The mass-produced Fordson tractor created an affordable piece of valuable machinery to farmers, and made it possible for the average farmer to purchase a new and reliable tractor that many farmers thoroughly had enjoyed.

The Fordson tractor was the first lightweight, mass produced tractor on the market. The models sold for considerably less than competitive models. The name of the tractor, Fordson, was a contraction of the original name of the tractor operation, Henry Ford & Son."

Fort Kent, Maine

Let's check this one off the bucket list! We drove over the short bridge in Clair, New Brunswick (see the end of it on the left side of the photo) into Fort Kent, Maine, and....bam! Smack at the beginning of US 1!

This wonderful sign is no longer in existence. The new owners painted over it and made it crap.

Vintage Signage for Glendale Motel in Seaside, NJ

#July4th, Nathan's Famous in Coney Island will hold its annual #hotdog eating contest. This iconic #frankfurter store opened 100 years ago as a small 5-foot long counter selling #hotdogs for a nickel. Nathan and Ida Handwerker, #Polish immigrants, started the business insisting on selling quality specially spiced franks which came in natural casings and freshly fried potatoes. This weekend, this original location will sell an estimated 26,000 hot dogs! Photo and full text on the history of this #storefront appear in our book "New York Nights". This photo really highlights the glorious #vintage #neon signs Nathan's has as it just had finished raining and the glow of the #neon signs are reflected in the puddles on the sidewalk. #WHPilluminate #neonsign #neongeeks #signgeeks #tv_retro #tv_typography #tv_retrotype #trb_ipoft_signs #everything_signage #signcollective #jj_texttypographical #myfeatureshoot #gas_food_lodging
