Big ol' (3.5' x 5') thick coated cardboard SNOBOY Sunkist Lemons sign from the 1950s. Screen printed with neon yellow (and other colors). Double sided with an advert for canned tomatoes (not nearly as fun of an image).
Philadelphia, PA; the sign was built as a scaffold sign in 1999 and installed in downtown Baltimore:

Then moved here in 2010 and used as a billboard sign next to the interstate.
"Closed For Remodel"
The d'angelo of Bristol, CT remodeled in October 2007, replacing this older sign for the new one. The lower part of the sign was once "chips", d'angelo's late ice cream shop, later used for promotional messages.
This location closed in 2014 and has been vacant since.
Old neon sign for the former Acme in Egg Harbor City, NJ. The supermarket which had been open since the 1950s, closed in 2002.
From the looks of the place, they don't need the neon "no" in front of 'vacancy". A little off the beaten track

This is a nice old-fashioned restaurant sign which is seen by motorists passing by on Interstate 40 on the east side of downtown Knoxville
A Larger view to see them better?
When you are asked, "What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say 'Washington, DC'", what would you say?
Washington Monument?
The Capitol?
White House?
Memorials?
National Mall?
Smithsonial Institute?
Well I think I would say Traffic Chaos. There are so many diversions and roadblocks that even if you have lived your entire life there in the neighborhood you have a good chance of getting lost. I was lost, driving and I was in front of a road block barricade and an officer next to it. I asked him for directions and he kindly gave me the same. The directions involved crossing a one-way street. Unbeknowest to that officer, there was another one in my way, right in the middle of the road, parked car with lights on asking me to turn around. Thanks to the One way, I couldnt get back to the same place again to ask to be rerouted (I should have taken the $10.99 GPS offer). Bottom line? Lets say, I saw the entire DC driving around in a couple of hours, unintentionally :D
The signs above were all photographed on the same morning, while walking around the downtown and tourist areas of DC. On the background is Washington Monument.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
the neon is long gone and the business name has changed but the sign still stands at the Secondi Bros truck stop at I95 exit 40 in Milford CT
20070627n 006c - This thing has survived several torrential downpours already, and is still stuck where I first saw it. Hubby commented that it must have super glue epoxy on the bottom of it, and it would be a nightmare for someone to accidentally place it upside down while using it for it's intended use! UPDATE: 7-7-07: Someone removed it, but the glue from the bottom is still stuck in place!
Love these new signs. Anyone who follows my photo stream or visits Brazos Bend knows they aren't kidding. I've seen Park visitors being very careless with their dogs and their kids. I've probably been careless with myself a few times while trying to get a picture :) I actually worry more about stepping or crawling onto a snake.

Sometimes photography is just about having fun and looking for things other people may not see. . . .this was taken in a candy shop in Charleston, SC with my iPhone. . .
