According to well-informed rumors, Sparky and neighboring business Paradise Printing have been "politely" told to leave. The buildings on this corner are to be torn down and replaced by a Walgreens pharmacy.
Sparky Electronics appear to be moving to a site on Ashlan between Cedar and hwy 168; however, the fate of this funky old sign is still unknown to me.
Very sad indeed. I turned up today and found out of three this was the only one left. A week later it'll propbably be gone so a good thing I got there in time. The others had the top part of the sign and a space or a new sign. I didn't take them for obvious reasons.

i am always intruiged by those get rick quick posters that line the junctions and street corners. who puts them there? does anyone ever phone them? Thought this might amuse those people driving to work and consider the questions i do!
got a few good ones posted in a few pubs last night too. great opportunity to see the public interact with them. got me thinking how busy public spaces might be a good venue for Free art friday things.
plus I'll justify spending time in lots of pubs!
i have got the printer churning these out. not sticky i'm afraid (so you'll have to sort your own paste) laminating is getting expensive too so you'll have to sort that out. i'm happy to sort the postage if you want some though.
I also very happy to see people copy them or make their own up. (it's not rocket science!)
just think of the fun!!!
flickr say these are my most interesting posts! funny old game!

I suspect this had been covered -- and protected -- by aluminum siding. The building is undergoing a renovation now. I wonder if they knew what was lurking behind the siding.
UPDATE Here's the sign, post-renovation.
You can tell the North Carolina Department of Transportation was annoyed at losing the court battle.
The sign reads:
YOU MAY BE APPROACHED BY PERSONS SEEKING DONATIONS. THE N.C. DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION DOES NOT SPONSOR OR ENCOURAGE SUCH ACTIVITIES BUT IS PREVENTED BY THE COURTS FROM PROHIBITING THEM. IF YOU ARE ASKED TO GIVE, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE
(Compare this to the no-nonsense courts in Florida.)

Krueger "K Man" Bar Sign, circa 1940's, or earlier? There is no phosphor coated glass here, all glass is clear or tinted. The outer ring is clear w/ mercury vapor and liquid mercury. The inner ring is tinted yellow, filled with mercury vapor, which glows blue, to make green. The words are clear w/ neon. The "K Man" is a small 1/4" diameter glass with mercury vapor. This is a real work of art. Krueger was a New Jersey brand based out of Newark. The company operated from 1858 to 1961. From my personal collection.
