Newmarket South (450,000 square feet)
124 Newmarket Square, Newport News, VA
NS was built as Newmarket Shopping Center in 1956. At the time, it was the largest shopping center in the state (with about 29 tenants and 2,000 parking spaces), and the first real shopping center on the peninsula, not counting small commercial strips. It was renovated in 1979 to how it appears now (which is when these road signs were installed, replacing the original tall sign that was topped by a weather ball).

This Stop & Shop Plaza sign along Hazard Ave. is much more flashy than the somewhat ho-hum plaza itself. While it's probably not as old as you'd think, the store's renovation in 2007 sought to replace it as well as a well-known Bradlees/Medi-Mart trash can that was once near the entrance.

This classic neon sign hangs on the corner of Terry Bentz' Buick dealership in Marseilles,IL. I only wished it had been lit.

Here's one for all the Harley fans. This is in front of a little gas station convenience store on US Hwy 129 (The Dragon) beside the Little Tennessee River / upper part of Tellico Lake.
