Dancing in the shallows to flush out small fish and other tasty morsels. Low water levels on Rutland Water have seen large numbers of Egrets gathering around the lake shores (8655).

A Sanderling feeding in the shallows. Beautiful little waders.

Mid tide at the natural pool on Ile des Pins, New Caledonia, in the early morning, I had to stand very still to prevent causing ripples with each movement, almost chest deep in the water, I also used a polariser to minimize the reflections of the pine forest, you can see some fish and giant clams, well not so giant as in Palau but as big as a human head, in the waters here. This is a beautiful spot but very busy with people after early morning, and what you see depends on the tide level and the winds, fortunately it was reasonably calm.

Well, flickr is apparently having a seizure. It's telling me I have no public photostream anymore. I have 3500 plus photos on this site but suddenly, I have no public photostream. The only way I can view my pictures now is using the edit button under more. I'll not be posting anything else until flickr gets this fixed, if they ever do. Thanks for the look and have a great weekend

Probing around in the shallows in the Winter sunshine on the lagoon at Rutland Water in the East Midlands (UK) (9714)

Jordan Lake, North Carolina, USA

The lake was formed in the early 50's by a levee on 765 acres of swamp land. It consists of oak, bald cypress and tupelo and the water levels can be raised and lowered as needed. Most areas of this lake are less than 6 feet deep.

I was trying to get shots of the Common Water Snake the other day. I see movement a big greenish blob in the water, it is a Snapping Turtle, next thing I see it moving towards a unsuspecting Water snake going about its snake business. The Turtle nabs the snake right in the middle of its body, it flailed around struggling to get free from the jaws of hungry reptile. All efforts were futile, I felt bad for snakey but a Turtles gotta eat and I was thankful it wasnt one of the ducklings that I sometimes see there. :)

I won't take your direction.

この口やっぱ好きだわ

Limpkin foraging the shallows eating snails.

They say that for every one you can see, there are ten that you can't.

One of many issues of Australian stinging/biting/eating/poisonous wildlife that we Aussies need to be mindful of. [And don't forget the drop bears!]

But it's o.k. I've personally had many encounters with potentially lethal Red-Back/Black Widow spiders, Eastern Brown and other snakes, as well as a shark. I'm still standing.

Cheers to a brand new week and another day in love with Chaos.

Reddish Egret feeding in the shallows of Ding Darling

I had sat on the stone wall overhanging the fast flowing River Shiel, for about ten minutes, silently and completely still. I knew there were some red deer grazing about quarter of a mile upstream, and now that dawn was arriving they would have to find their way back home. Sooner or later some would come my way. But I had no idea how close they had got to me through the boggy thickets, so that when two stags leapt into the river nearby I jumped out of my skin, assuming some enormous fish was thrashing about in the shallows below me. But the light and my readiness was poor and whilst I fired off a few shots, you just can't get decent shots under those circumstances.

It's nice to see the stags back. For months they have been missing, leaving the hinds and calves to forage with their own herds. A gamekeeper told me he thought males and females had their own forests during the summer months, the stags 20 miles down the loch in the forests around Glenfinnan, whilst the females stayed around here at the westerm end of Loch Shiel.
