Thanks to Maree for the use of her kitchen and amazing photo table.
A big thank you to Maree's neighbour for providing the magnificent chess set, It belonged to his Grandfather and it originally came from Afghanistan. I like this connection to the theme.
Yesterday I found this cup and saucer set for reading fortunes using tea leaves. It was in a local charity shop. It looked brand new but they'd stuck a label on its box saying "No book".
I asked to look inside, someone said "There is no book",
I said I'd like to look anyway.
The cup was packaged beautifully with red cloth around it. Under the red cloth was the saucer. And under that was the book. I said "Look, the book".
Without letting me see it the woman at the till extracted it and looked at it. "Its in Chinese" she said. "Do you still want it?". "Yes" I said.
And when I got it home and looked at it I found it was in English!
Of course its no use to me as I don't drink tea!
-------------
Though the cup's real use, for me, is of course as a subject for February's MSH category - tomorrow - as what else does someone want to read fortunes for but to know what tomorrow holds?

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.
Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.
In their styes with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking.
Everywhere there's lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.

Midway through the first partial phase of the Aug 28 2007 lunar eclipse.
Composite photo--sunlit portion exposed 1/160 s; shadowed portion exposed 1 s. Blended in The GIMP to try and approximate what I saw visually. I really don't think I did it justice--it was an awesome sight through the telescope. You could see detail in both regions of the moon, and you could see reddish hues in the shadowed part.

Puppets Shadow
The puppet
Strings dangle down
as she moves around
her movements broken
as her head hangs down
Her master makes her sway
about through the play
but her spirit sit dully inside.
Her pain is unheard
as she owns not a mouth
but instead submits to the voice of another.
The shadow
he dances about
following her steps she puts out
mimicking each move that she makes.
he make not a sound
and his presence unknown,
even though the light makes him seen.
he has no choice, as to where or how he voices
the things that go on in his self.
