Having waaaay too much fun with my new hipstamatic app for the iphone. I took a long ramble with my dog, and kept finding shadows to play with.
Note the directions of the shadows. Both of these are shadows of sunlight, but neither of these shadows is from the direction of the sun. Both are from reflections from buildings.
An old style bike fastened to a lamp post and low fence. For Fence Friday.
In the very old days you even needed a permit to cykle in town.
Your bike had to have a number plate, but you don't need one now. It finished in the late1950s, but you still see the odd bike with its numberplate. (In Sweden)
Compositionally Challenged week 49 is Break the Rules. I broke the rules by shooting into the sun and using intentional over-exposure to prevent the trees and shadows from turning into silhouettes. The grass was beaded with heavy condensation from three days of fog.

Wayang Kulit in Central Java Indonesia is probably one of the oldest continuous traditions of storytelling in the world, and certainly among the most highly developed, The wayang is a flat or round puppets used for shows in Java.The wayang kulit is the flat one and it is made with buffalo leather. They are maipulated behind a white screen with a back light, so the attendance can see them as shadow puppets. The puppets are stored in line, in a banana tree trunk, behind the screen and in front of the puppeter.
The puppeter is called the dalang.

I was photographing an anole when I noticed that his shadow was going right through the leaf he was perched on. I have wanted to get this sort of shot for a while now so I instantly abandoned photographing the anole itself and concentrated on his shadow. Not perfect but I'm happy with the results.
I've decided to learn some new skills over the winter months. There has been dew on the grass the past few mornings and the days do feel as if they are drawing in.
The early autumnal turners have started their colourful slide into winter. There a couple of trees I noticed last year who were early turners who are already changing their clothes.
I want to expand my art and what I am capable of and I am going to learn some new crafts and once mastered I hope to incorporate them back into the sculptures that I make.
As such I am going to post less land art on here for the time being and instead post more 'normal' photographs, as it were (just so that you don't forget about me ;-)). and limit the sculptures to perhaps once a month.
I expect I will go on producing them at the same rate but having more freedom will mean I can expand my ideas without concern about failure and I will also have lots of works to exhibit and publish that are as yet unseen.
The last few days, after I decided what I wanted to do, I went out to practice my photography without creating any sculptures and I was really pleased with how I got on. I have barely taken a picture that hasn't involved land art and my photography has developed hand in hand with my ability to sculpt.
So it was quite interesting to see how it had moved on in that time and a lot of fun to be free from the constraints of photographing my art.
I hope you like a little of what you'll see (and don't abandon me because I ain't showing you my sculptures!).
As I walked into the kitchen I saw my shadow; I expect the unusual effect is caused by the sunlight shining through the faceted glass in the door behind me.
Not really that dark. Maybe 'Shadow Jump' would be a better name? Ooh, that sounds awesome. I'll have to use that in a story. Must be going! Off to write. Ta ta.
Really cool how this one came out with the shadows and the contrast. This is a fire escape from a building that was quite old.
Nice bit of sun shining on a tree, casting the shadow of a leaf onto the bark. Not framed as well as it could have been sadly.
This weeks theme was Shadows.
As theres been very little sun to create a strong shadow, it was down to bottle of the other half's perfume and a torch.
Maybe not a good idea as when I showed her the finished image she noticed that the bottle is almost finished and guess who'll have to buy her another bottle? - DOH!!
