Seen here at in Sussex Showground at Ardingly are a pair of Scammell Scarabs in British Railways' carmine and cream livery. These were a ubiquitous urban sight throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, operating BR's collection and delivery sevices that were subsequently hived off to the National Freight Corporation's National Carriers subsidiary. Both appear to be authentic BR vehicles too: NDN759 is a York-issue registration. York was the headquarters of the old North Eastern Region, while the 1960-issue London registration WLD720 suggests that this served with BR's Eastern Region.

At the time this photo was taken, the Pendolino trains were not in service. The photographer was lucky to see this one while he was waiting for a train to go north. It's 2002 - since then, a lot has happened, and these trains are all in sevice except one which left of the rail at speed south of Carlisle.

Ipswich Reds Volvo B7TL Alexander ALX 400 AU53 HKD passes Glebe Farm at Ringshall working the diverted WX 405 service from Barking to Stowmarket High School. After the Wattisham Airbase stop this service normally serves Ringshall down Lower Farm Road but because of Roadworks was diverted via Carters Lane. These Volvo's must have some miles on the clock since first being introduced in 2003.

Running late on the 501 service from Castle Douglas and delayed by the late running service from Dumfries Stagecoach Volvo B99R Caetano Levante comes through Kirkgunzeon,I still cannot get my head round the use of coaches on rural bus services in Scotland,however I am not complaining just the odd passenger having to climb the steps with a load of shopping!

XV590/001/R McDonnell Douglas F-4K Phantom FG-1 (CN 3394/9344) of 892 Naval Air Squadron, Royal Navy seen in the company of 11 other 892 Phantoms imediately prior to departure of eight jets for HMS Ark Royal on her last tour and 892's last shipboard deployment prior to disbandment. All of the jets went on to join 43 or 111 Squadrons at Leuchars with the exception of XT868/010/R which crashed at Leuchars a month after this shot was taken with one fatality. XV590 was delivered in July 1969 and after RN sevice joined 43 Squadron as X. The aircraft was scrapped at Leuchars in April 1992.
