The pop (i.e. popular) stand on the Burton Stone Lane side of Bootham Crescent, home to York City Football Club between 1932 and 2021. Note, right, the floodlight mast base.
Captured during the second of two open days for fans and York residents before bulldozers move in and the site is covered with 93 houses. More than 2,500 visitors attended the open days, on November 28 and December 1.
Many fixtures and fittings had been stripped from the ground before the open days took place.
Assessing the success of the open days, Ian McAndrew, City's stadium development director, told the York Press newspaper: "It's been really rewarding. Getting fans round has been wonderful. The ground offered so much to the history and culture of the city of York, as well as York City. We've seen how close people are to Bootham Crescent and the club."
Handover of the site to Persimmon Homes is expected to take place early in 2022. Demolition of what remains of the football facilities can then begin. It has been agreed, in principle, that two streets in the development will be named after former York City players, David Longhurst (who, tragically, in 1990, died on the pitch at Bootham Crescent) and Keith Walwyn.
Historic England will mark the site's heritage. Its plans include a memorial garden, recreating the pitch’s existing centre circle and installing a flagpole at the entrance to the open space at the heart of the development. A section of terrace and tunnel will be kept and there are plans to re-create the ground virtually, through an app.

Head of Children's Services Gretchen Hams demonstrates the browsable stacks of books for pre-readers up to age 5. Books are organized by broad categories, and even color-coded so that even preschoolers can easily find the types of books they love. Favorite non-fiction picture books such as fairy tales, transportation and animal titles for young listeners are no longer buried in the stacks with research titles for older readers.
