TCS103 was a Daimler CVG6LX.30DD / Northern Counties H41/33F purchased new by A1 Service member Brown of Dreghorn in February 1962. It is shown arriving at Kilmarnock. This bus lasted until 1978 before sale to Ensign (dealer).

James Brown had acquired the share of Hugh Cheyne of Dreghorn in May 1960, having previously maintained the fleet at Coursehill Garage in Springside. A second share from Katherine McKee of Saltcoats was added in January 1965, and a third from T&J Hunter came in August 1990. Sadly the business was sold to Stagecoach in January 1995.

United 92: United's home-built Ambulance with a bit of Mother, Jugs, and Speed accenting.

This ambulance was built by a master craftsman. Though humble in design, it was highly functional. Originally beginning service as a stock vehicle, its appearance was modified shortly after the release of Mother, Jugs, and Speed. EMS workers throughout the valley knew of this ambulance solely due to it flair. It was one of a kind.

History:

This private ambulance service was born from its predecessor, Wayne's Taxi and Ambulance service of Payettte, Idaho - year, unknown. The owner/operator, Wayne Smith, managed EMS differently those days. In the event of a ambulance request, the taxi driver, if out and about, would respond to the scene of the call in the cab while the other would pick up the ambulance at the barn and meet up with the first fellow. I suppose this could be considered an early version of the first-responder system. The business changed hands (unknown date) and was purchased by Arvid and Val Hemenway of Fruitland, Idaho. The name of the service was changed to United and the taxi component of the business was dropped owing to high ambulance call volume. In the early to middle 2000s, United Ambulance Service ended its 32 year run as an EMS provider, which gave rise to two services in its wake: Payette County Paramedics of Fruitland, Idaho and Treasure Valley Paramedics of Ontario, Oregon (1999). Val was my EMT instructor in 1979. I worked for her briefly and just a few hours per week before leaving the area for paramedic school in Portland, Oregon. The ambulance shown above is a early-70s 3/4-ton Chevrolet van. Note the ambulance to the left. It's a 1970 Superior Coach on a Pontiac Bonneville chassis. Its unit identifier was United 94.

CAG619 was a Leyland Titan PD2/1 fitted with Leyland's own bodywork. It was purchased new by A1 Service Member Murray of Saltcoats in 1948 and had a full life with the company, not being retired until May 1966. This view was taken at Parkhouse bus stance in Ardrossan on a dreich day .

NCS19P was a Leyland Fleetline FE30AGR / Alexander AL Type H74F purchased new by A1 Service Member Ian Duff in July 1976. The Duff Family operated their share from Parkhouse Garage in Ardrossan, which is still owned to this day.
