Bald cypress trees in the Albemarle Sound, Edenton, North Carolina. Moving clouds above and waves beneath blurred by a five minute long exposure.
Last of the pictures of the Scarborough Life Saving Tower with a figure in the landscape. Very much a Jeffrey Smart like image.

The light shining through while driving in this section of the park was like a giant softbox and the leaves on the trees were just glowing. When I saw this tree trunk standing like a great sentinel, it was time to pull over and shoot. Acadia National Park, Maine, USA, October 2018

Given that our Autumn was very warm and sunny I had an opportunity to ride down to Scarborough. I found this perspective to view one of the Surf lifesaving watch towers. It is an astonishgly beautiful structure and from this vantage point is reminds me of Jeffrey Smart's paintings. I used my personal "film" settings based on Fujifilms chrome settings. I have a few more shots that are subtly different. Just a beautiful minimalist view with bright colours.
The very first time I ever laid eyes on this bird, I had no idea wheat it was ... we didn't have birds like this in FL! Of course, now I know that this is the very beautifully marked chukar. Not native to the U.S., feral populations were brought over to the western areas, probably for hunting as they have a quail-like appearance. They live in habitats with rocky hillsides and canyons ... preferring arid, sloped areas. They are quite proficient for finding water sources in those environments where water isn't as obvious to find.
Usually when I see one, like quail, there's a sentinel bird watching out for the others as they forage about. Also like quail, they can scurry along at a pace that would out-distance them from a human. The first time I saw them, it was its call that alerted me ... sort of like a series of "chucks".
We see them foraging about here in western CO, though this one was photographed on a beautiful tummy day in UT. Aren't they just gorgeous?
Happy Weekend everyone! Thanks for stopping by to view.

An older shot from a visit a few years ago. I must admit, there is a little bit of PS wizardry in this image. Sometimes an older shot yields a different look if reprocessed.

When we first arrived at Crosby beach the tide was on it's way out which I felt was the perfect time to capture long exposure shots, even if our timing on this occasion was pure fluke! This is another shot of Antony Gormley's installation, "Another Place", using a Kenkoo ND1000 filter.
The male guards the female and later the chicks while they eat. The female goes where she finds food and the male sits up high on posts, fences, trees to watch over the family. He constantly calls "ka-KAW-ka" as an all-clear signal! He eats on the run during this time.
This male is sitting on our deck post.
