A dead tree stands near the edge of the canyon at Natural Bridges National Monument. These trees thrive in periods when there is sufficient rain but periods of drought cause them difficulties and some die. Average rainfall is about 13 inches a year, elevation ranges from 5,500 to 6,500 feet.
Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!
This very old tree is no longer alive but still stands as sentinel on the top of Paulina Peak 7984 ft in Oregon. This shot was taken in color, I like the B/W version better.
We've all seen those docos on Meerkats and know that the family group posts sentries to keep a look-out for danger as the others go about their daily business. Although these little characters live in Australia Zoo, I suppose there might still be the risk of a hawk or eagle attacking, so this guy has a "real" job.

Finally finished, after contending with numerous PC crashes and grouping errors.
Victorian lighthouse off the coast of Dovercourt, North Essex. 40 second exposure, using Formatt-Hitech Firecrest ND13 & 0.6 Soft Grad Filters.
I haven't worked with the resident crows in one of our public parks for some time; the big wheel that's there at the moment seemed a good opportunity to start again
Sunlit sentinels - A superbly still and calm summer's day dawns on Buttermere producing near mirror perfect reflections of the sunlit sentinels overlooked by Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks.
This iconic row of scots pines situated at the southern end of the lake, come alive when first lit by the early morning light in summer. The verdant greens of the pines at this time of year, in stark contrast to the backdrop of the deep shadow of Fleetwith Pike cast along Warnscale Bottom, makes for added drama and beauty of this classic Lakeland scene.
Buttermere is often described as the most beautiful and photogenic of all the Lake District's lakes - it's hard to argue with that when witnessing scenes like this.

Observing and photographing the eagles at Lake Jordan, North Carolina is always a treat. They are such magnificent birds.
These guys were standing outside a shoe-shop as I walked past. I don't know if they worked there or if they were there for the street market outside the shop, watching people coming and going. As I walked past the left guy swung around as something caught his attention down the street. Trying to remain inconspicuous I shot blind, from the hip with a Canon EOS 6D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L lens @ 28mm
For nearly 200 years, The Daymark has stood sentinel on the headland above Stepper Point at the mouth of the River Camel estuary.
It serves as a daylight navigation beacon and is visible from over 30 miles offshore.
It was also the inspiration for Arthur C. Clark’s short story The Sentinel, which went on to be the basis of the film 2001. The story goes that Mr Clark, while holidaying in Padstow…
… No. Sorry. That’s simply untrue. Ignore that last bit.

Usual caveats etc.
Another shot from a beautiful Scarborough Beach Icon. It really isnt possible to take a bad picture of this extraordinary lookout tower.

Very grey and subdued light yesterday. I didn't manage to get nearly as close as I would've liked to, but here is a portrait of one of the short-eared owls that was haunting the fen and making an end of voles
Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted something, but here is a mech I built a few months ago as part of a BrickzLab challenge. I didn't feel like posting only the mech without some terrain to add a little contrast. I hope you like the design and a happy new year!
Clouds and mist surround Sentinel Rock in Yosemite Valley as the early spring snow storm clears. Of course, you can never capture the mist swirling around a mountain peak, but I hope you get a sense of the beauty and mystery.
Midway between El Capitan and Half Dome, Sentinel (Rock) is guardian of Yosemite Valley's South side. There are three difficult climbing routes up Sentinel Rock and a dangerous descent.
Thanks for stopping by.
