A Great Blue Heron stands watch over the wetlands near Everett, Washington. These wetlands border the sloughs and rivers bound for the Puget Sound.

This was taken at Buttermere in the Lake District. These iconic trees are known as “The Sentinels”, presumably because they appear to be standing guard over the lake (PA220014)

a beautiful meerkat (suricata suricatta) in pose for a shot.

these little predators live in packs of 12/30 individuals and are used to hunt in group all the little animals they can catch.

they are specialized in digging to find scorpions, insects and what else.you can see the claws.

but meerkats have a lot of enemies, mainly birds of prey like eagles.

this is why some of them are always on alert ready to advise the companions in case of a danger

These trees are to be found on the edge of Buttermere in the U.K.'s Lake District. They are known as the "Sentinels" presumably because they appear to be guarding the lake.

When a cat stares at a point, perhaps it is creating a poem. Or is discovering a gap in the universe. Or is waiting for an angel to come.

MAGIC!

Driving along the 17-Mile Drive, between Monterey and Carmel I pulled over to stretch my legs and capture some photons when I saw this seagull and ground squirrel appearing to be standing guard over their domain.

Some more archive surfing in search of a landscape and I found this from a couple of months ago.

A lone tree stands watch at the entrance to Crescent City Harbor in northernmost California. I took this photo with my iPhone in June of 2018 and recently rediscovered it.

Most of my posts this month will be ‘discoveries’ of old photos like this one was, blasts from the past that I didn’t make public at the time I took them. Once the New Year starts, I may have to back away from Flickr for a while.

Perched between wind and whisper,

the bird bows to no hour.

It watches — still — as feet pass by,

stories rustling like leaves below.

Only tilts its head —as if to ask

This towering, neighborhood tree stands on a vacant lot dwarfing the other trees around it. I often wonder what stories it could tell and how it came to dominate the horizon, defying storms and the sawblade. It has a covering of new leaves now, which gives me hope that my country and our democracy will endure through this time of "Trumpian" darkness.
