Captured with a Minolta Dynax 700si on AgfaPhoto APX 100 film, this black-and-white image presents the Reinhold-Maier-Tower in Boertlingen. The green-and-white striped structure, resembling a lighthouse, is a repurposed nearly 100-year-old pendulum tower of the state water supply, now serving as an observation tower. Standing tall against a textured sky, its bold pattern contrasts with the surrounding landscape. A bare tree frames the right side, adding a touch of quiet solitude, while the adjacent building grounds the scene in a sense of place. The image evokes both clarity and nostalgia, blending architectural precision with an atmospheric stillness.
Dyrholaey, Iceland.
Lonely stack stands the guard on the windy night near Vik in southern Iceland. One never knows what is lurking in the dark sea. And the shore must be defended….
Lindisfarne Castle in Northumberland, A low tide exposes these posts, they look to be very old and well worn from their time being battered by the waves each time the tide comes in, although I have read the castle was built in 1550 I cannot find out what the purpose of these posts are.
This was the view that greeted me as I headed back to my campsite after a night photographing the northern Lake Superior shoreline.
I have struggled with this image. Last year when I was here, I thought it might be a "throw away shot" when I took it. It turned out to be one of my favorites, but I could never get it to look right. This year...I tried again.
HRVATSKI 🇭🇷

"Sentinel at Sea"
Perched on an old buoy, this gull keeps a watchful eye on both the sea and the shore. In everyday coastal life in Croatia, gulls are ever-present – symbols of freedom, resilience, and cleverness.
They're not just birds we encounter by the sea – gulls are also natural weather forecasters, often the first to signal a storm with their unusual flight patterns or loud cries.
In some Dalmatian tales, the gull represents a sailor longing to return home, while in urban legends, it’s also known as a "charming flirt" – inspired by the local phrase "pravi galeb" (a true gull) for a man fond of seduction.
Whether in the sky or on a buoy – the gull is always there, alert, free, and true to itself.

"Wächter der See"

The Low Lighthouse is one of three lighthouses in Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset and the only one which is still active.
It is a Grade II listed building and stands on the foreshore. First lit in 1832, the Low Lighthouse was run in conjunction with the onshore High Lighthouse for the next 137 years. Following improvements to the High Light, the Low Light was then deactivated in 1969; but it was then re-established in 1993 (when the High Lighthouse lights were permanently discontinued).
Today, the Low Lighthouse has a focal plane of 7 metres (23 ft) and provides a white flash every 7.5s, plus a fixed directional light (white, red, or green depending on direction) at a focal plane of 4 m (13 ft).
I spotted these spent poppies in my daughter's garden. Did you need to know that? I doubt it. But my excuse is that it adds colour... which is now distinctly lacking in the image :)
For the Donnertagsmonochrom group and also my 100x Monochrome and Tinted challenge. (I'd almost caught up with the 100x, sigh.)
Less than 20 minute edit. Yeay!
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image :)

As I wasnt completely convinced by my first effort at processing this I decided to give it another go with a little more subtlety and restraint. I have a terrible habit of pushing the boundaries sometimes which in its own way isnt a bad thing but often when the composition does all you want then there's no need to do more than is necessary.
Bedruthan is a really top notch location and if you can get an early morning or evening with a low tide and little or no footprints then you couldnt ask for better.
The danger signals at the Izatnagar end of Mailani Jn. The yard looks deserted after the closure of the Sitapur- Mailani Jn. Section.
Very grateful to the anonymous rock balancer who gave me something new to shoot in what must be my seven millionth snapshot of this scene at Creve Coeur Lake. :-)
I've been there 2 mornings, first morning was windy, but also very nice light.
Second morning was cold, en there was a nice fog over the water, so 2 times lucky
