An enraf wave radar. Used to measure the distance from a fixed point to the water surface every at 2Hz (0.5 seconds) this time series can be processed using SWAP to generate the wave parameters such as Significant Wave Height. This photo was in Qatar if I remember right.

Here you can see the Schmitt trigger on the bottom as apposed to on the top as in the last design.

Positioning of the sensor was the tricky part, as sometimes the pedal was registering a lot of double-hits unintentionally. I also had to make sure the beater wouldn't hit the sensor, as it is very fragile (basically a bare circuit on a teensy motherboard).
