Y, a cada lado del río, había un árbol de la vida, con doce clases distintas de frutas, y cada mes entregaban su cosecha; y las hojas de los árboles servían para curar a las naciones.

Our family had to have some sort of vacation holiday and chose an area of the country that was less densely populated and with lower COVID-19 rates. It also happened to include North Dakota, a state none of us had been to and marks state #49 for Tamara. We had a wonderful trip, got labeled as "Covid-sensitive" at a restaurant (which we now bear as a badge of honor), and got to see and explore a lot of places that in a 'normal' year we probably would have missed out on.
Out walking and birdwatching with Signe in Thickson Woods, came across this fern. based on ontarioferns.com/main/species.php?id=4032 I think I've got it identified, but I'm always willing to be corrected.
Sensitive Partridge Pea, Chamaecrista nictitans, is a legume that has leaflets sensitive to touch. Touch them and they fold. This specimen was in a remnant prairie in southern Ohio.

The leaves of Mimosa have the capability to display thigmonasty (touch-induced movement). In the sensitive plant, the leaves respond to being touched, shaken, heated or rapidly cooled. The speed of the response depends on the magnitude of the stimulus. Hitting the leaf hard with the flick of a finger will cause the leaf to close in the blink of an eye whereas a gentle touch or modest heat source applied to leaflets at the tip of a leaf will result in a slower response and the propagation of the stimulus along the leaf can be observed.
