A number of waterbirds have odd shaped bills.The bills of the ibis and the curlew are long and downcurved, while that of the avocet is curved upwards.One of the oddest is that of the spoonbill.It’s the shape of the bill that has given the bird its name.This bill is widened at the tip, and is actually more spatula-shaped than spoon-shaped, because its tip is not dished.The birds feed with their sensitive bills open a few centimetres. They sweep them from side to side through shallow water in search of small aquatic creatures such as water beetles and small yabbies.The inside of the “spoon” is equipped with “vibration detectors”.
This special feature enables the birds to feel for their food rather than look for it.
A semi-aquatic mammal native to south and southeast Asia. These otters have sensitive and dexterous front paws which help them locate their prey when they dig around in the mud. Their diet consist primary of crabs, molluscs, frogs and crustaceans.

A Day in the Life of an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) or What it is to be Me ...
The darkness fell on me like a hungry wolf
and cloaking me in velveteen
it disappeared me into oblivion
The cool wet earth squelched between my toes
and the holes in my boots
widened like the mouths of ravenous dogs
The stench of the marshlands
hit my nostrils full pelt
and brought me to my knees
whereupon it dissipated into nothingness
The moon looked down forming an eye
like the Eye of Horus
and the tree licked with long lashes
the cold night air that seeped through the gaps
and steeped in abject misery time after time elapsed
and the world I'd inhabited for so long collapsed
The limbs of the forest and leaves that fell
and intricate tendrils coiled and toiled
in the frozen breath and the belly of the earth
I felt the cloying darkness descending fast
The carpet of Autumn was widespread
and dawning on me now was the realisation
the dread of Winter was arriving
devoid of polite and solicitous invitation
with total disregard or due consideration
The search for the last leaf left
was fast approaching from every compass point
and I stood still as Winter swept around me
my ankles bitten hard and knees grazed
by the North wind ice-tipped arrows
The Moon was orange and looked warm
as it reflected the Sun back to it
like a mirror at a fairground distorted and forlorn
and hid the truth as even our own eyes thus deceived us
The impression was of the fiercest heat
and the facade kept on growing
building on the illusion
that stills the beating of my heart
the last breath on my lips so blue
the final moment when it comes
is as seamless as the first
and yet the hunger and the thirst
are no longer felt
are surplus to requirement
all that is needed now
is completeness
of the circle of life
and stillness
peace and quiet
profound or without ground
desire no longer felt
and all the sins wiped clean
cleansed and bathed
and laid in readiness
for the cycle to begin again
and again
and again
ad infinitum
world without end
oh the hopeless futility of it all
and yet
I had found love
I had found beauty
I had found a pathway
through every uncertainty
and I kept on going
no matter what
I am small
I am a speck
and yet
I am not beaten yet …

This pretty yellow wildflower grows in meadows, fields, prairies, and along roadsides in the mid and eastern states of America. It is also known as the Sensitive Plant because the leaves fold together when touched. They grow in dry or moist soil and in sun or partial shade. Partridge Peas are annuals which grow from 1 to 3 feet tall and bloom from June through October. Bees and butterflies are attracted to their bright yellow blooms. HMM
The anticipation of waiting for you, kneeling, my eyes closed beneath the crimson cloth. Your collar firm around my neck. The equipment waiting to be used. Cuffs to bind me against the apparatus. Completely vulnerable. Sensitive to every movement. Your scent surrounds me, the clip of your shoes on the wooden floor familiar, reassuring. They cause deep tension within me for I am anticipating your wants, your needs, your desires. I am displayed before you...wanting to please you, make you smile, make you proud of how I come undone to the slightest of your touches. Your finger traces along the top of the collar. I inhale sharply. The anticipation is over, our playtime is about to begin.

The four-spotted chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata), known in North America as the four-spotted skimmer, is a dragonfly of the family Libellulidae found widely throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
The adult stage is found between April to early September in the United Kingdom, and from mid-May to mid-August in Ireland. Larvae have a two-year developmental cycle. Adults feed predominantly on mosquitoes, gnats, and midges the larvae feed primarily on other aquatic insect larvae and on tadpoles.
The male is considered to be highly aggressive and will defend a given territory from incursions from other males of the species. The male is known to form preferences for prominent perches and will often return to the same perches around the margins of pools and ponds whilst it patrols for intruders. Males have a favourable view of the sky during perching. They look toward a section of the sky away from the sun, with less radiation but a higher UV and blue-violet saturation. Thus, the fovea of the eyes, which is sensitive to blue and UV radiation, is optimally suited to the detection of flying insects against the blue sky.[3] Both sexes are prolific fliers, and mating takes place in the air, rather than on perches or amongst the vegetation. The female lays her eggs on floating vegetation. They tend to be easier to approach than Broad-bodied Chasers.

While standing in front of the castle I was fascinated by the fabulous light effect on the pavement just beneath this old street lantern of Philippsruhe Castle.
"The impressive baroque palace was built in 1725 in Hanau Kesselstadt on behalf of the Hanau Count Philipp Reinhard. Its present appearance can be traced back to conversions during the founding time. The premises now house the Historical Museum. The surrounding landscape park was originally designed as a baroque garden, but was renovated in the English style in the 19th century. The popular Brothers Grimm Festival takes place every year at the edge of the park in a newly designed amphitheatre. A highlight of the castle is the so called white hall. In the first years of the 18th century these rooms were used to house the cold-sensitive orange and lemon trees. Today the white hall offers sufficient space to host an opulent banquet at major celebrations such as weddings, birthdays or anniversaries, to function as a ballroom or to provide a dignified setting for meetings."

Jimmy is sensitive to loud thunderstorms (he doesn't like them). Thunder and lightning make him hug an interior wall, literally--and he won't eat until it's over. We've now had several days of heavy rainfall, and Jimmy looked like he needed a "pick-me-up", so I wrapped the warm clothes from the dryer around him, on the kitchen counter. Anything different gets his attention, & he enjoyed the nest for a while.

Tofu is truly a sensitive soul. There are a lot of things he is afraid of, like the vet, the vacuum cleaner, the garbage truck, the doorbell, the neighbour's dogs, people he doesn't know, etc. Whenever something worries him he hides either behind me or behind Cleo and if that isn't possibe he disappears behind the sofa. On the other hand he is a very kind, sweet, charming and peaceful cat. He is the only cat I have ever had who can sit under a birdfeeder for hours while birds come and go and no bird will get harmed because he just wants to watch them.

A candid street photo of a bride who attaches a wedding lock to a metal tree. The lock symbolizes the enduring love, commitment, trust, loyalty and unity between the two. The bride is fully focused on the important task. It is desicive moment for her. May the happiness be with her.

Another shot of this really very photogenic location. I disliked this shot at first - it's got a lot wrong with it technically. The sky is blown out, it has vignetting at the edges.
But, as I was thinking about the composition overall, and the imperfections - I realized that I couldn't stop looking at this image. I love the straight on portrait mode with these old houses. It formalizes their witness to time and the elements. It shows off their scars, and it gives them a certain proudness. This house has seen things, and you can't help but to see that immediately in this image. It reminds me of Harry Truman in a way. Not the president. The old codgeter that wouldn't leave his house on the flanks of Mt. St. Helens. He's under a lot of that mountain now, but he was proud and unwilling to give up his lived experiences in that place. This house seems to be stating something similar. 'I took care of mine. I did that right here. I am proud I did my job, and content in my fate.'
