Sensitive fern - Fertile fronds of the sensitive fern in early spring/late winter. When night temperatures do not drop below freezing anymore, the capsule-like structures that are the sori of the sensitive fern, open up and release the next generation.

Sensitive Plant or Shameplant. This plant's leaves close when you touch them and the tiny branch fold down when you touch their underside ! Very cool ! At Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden, Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii

"Sensitive Research" is the cornerstone of my interactive art collection. And by "cornerstone", I mean that I have no other interactive art (yet). But even if I did, this would still be the highlight. It has a spinning lemon, people.

"Sensitive Research" was a gift of the artist, Ranjit Bhatnagar.

Here's the same vine after a disturbance such as that caused by a plant-feeding animal. It may fool the animal into thinking it's dead, or it may just expose its sharp thorns. This plant doesn't move as fast as the better-known M. pudica, which is tropical.

I was given some light sensitive printing paper and so I did these designs with the things I found on the beach whilst beach combing so rewarding seeing the end results

Blossom

Sue Webber’s design, Blossom, was influenced by the delicacy of traditional Asian flower paintings. Elephants are very sensitive creatures and therefore delicate too. With this in mind Susan wanted to make this elephant as pretty as possible with soft pink blossoms on a light blue background. There are also birds with golden wings amongst the branches. How many birds can you spot?

Cluster of Sensitive Plants found on the way back from the last temple visited to the visitor's center

My 'Gardening Partner' started this in her greenhouse this spring and as they can be a pretty nice house plant I planted some in pots. I try to avoid touching them as they look so sad when the leaves all fold up from being touched :)

San Francisco Harbour Cruise

On vacation in Oahu 2002. I've since forgotten the name of the beach. I had to check out the grass because it felt so funny under my feet. I noticed the tiny sensitive plants. Here it is open.
