Yashar (Yaşar) Kemal (born Kemal Sadık Gökçeli(6 October 1923 – 28 February 2015) was a Kurdish writer (but he writes in Turkish)and human rights activist of Kurdish origin, and one of Turkey's leading writers.He received 38 awards during his lifetime and had been a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature on the strength of Memed, My Hawk.
An outspoken intellectual, he often did not hesitate to speak about sensitive issues, especially those concerning the oppression of the Kurdish people.He was tried in 1995 under anti-terror laws for an article he wrote for Der Spiegel highlighting the Turkish Army's destruction of Kurdish villages during the Turkish-Kurdish conflict. He was released but later received a suspended 20-month jail sentence for another article he wrote criticising racism in Turkey, especially against the Kurds.
This work on nutrition-sensitive landscapes is carried out by Bioversity International in partnership with the Farming Systems Ecology (FSE) group from Wageningen University and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, to characterize the Barotse landscape and its current farming systems. It is part of the CGIAR Research Program on Aquatic Agricultural Systems (AAS) and the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH).

This beautiful bar is packed full of luxuriant skin-pampering butters and clays. If you look closely you can see the tiny flecks of Morroccan Rhassoul clay and white clay that help give this soap its mottled pear colour.

Plus que le petit diptère (sans doute un syrphe), c'est cette fantastique plante "sensitive" qui est le cœur de cette image. Au moindre toucher, elle replie ses folioles et feuilles, totalement rabattues contre la tige en 1 seconde. J'avais déjà croisé cette famille aux Antilles mais c'est toujours aussi fantastique à observer !
Le mimosa pudique ("Mimosa pudica") a la particularité d'avoir des feuilles qui se replient dès qu'on les touche.

Working in collaboration with Eric Parry Architects and Latz + Partner, LUC was selected by Saxon Generali Real Estate to design a roof garden at One Fen Court, a new 17-storey mixed-use development at the heart of the City cluster in the City of London.
LUC’s services included planting design, pre-selection and specification, planning and inspection to deliver the soft landscape for the building’s 2,200m2 rooftop terrace. The garden, which is fully accessible to the public, sits 65m above street level and offers 360o views across London’s skyline.
The roof garden is designed to include all the best aspects of a public space whilst integrating building services and energy efficiency requirements. It provides a refreshingly tranquil escape from the dense City cluster and streets below. Our scheme sensitively combines seasonal herbaceous planting with exposure-tolerant and evergreen grasses, vines and espalier fruit. Its centrepiece is a grove of 88 wisteria supported on a pergola, providing shade, scent and shelter to the roof terrace.
As the visitor moves around the garden the quality of light changes with the aspect and the time of day and season. Moving water on the southern edge of the roof provides relief during warm spells.
