.parsprototo fanzine #2...comming soon!*

Made from my Sonar set, which I'm pretty happy with as a piece of work.

Just like the A4 one I made last month, it has too much pink in the colours so skin tones look a bit odd. Nevertheless, it's a very satisfying object and a great souvenir for all of us who went.

The new vintage Halloween collectibles guidebook, THR- V4 - the fourth volume of The Halloween Retrospect’s reference series for vintage collectibles continues archival research of America’s past holiday marketplace. This guide features a stylistic study of early art educator Louise D. Tessin (as well as other contributors) and the possibility of certain contributions toward early 20th-century Milton Bradley stained glass window transparencies. Shorter items include a look at Halloween products in Sunday school catalogs, John Wilcox items, and visual by Mabel Betsy Hill.

Inserts:

A: Transparency (new from Bindlegrim) homage to Milton Bradley’s stained glass paper decorations from 1940’s.

[For related topics read blog entry To: Halloween, From: Xmas].

B: Puzzle Bulletin II featuring 18×18 Halloween-themed crossword “Sight Seer Roundup” by Robert Aaron Wiley.

Articles:

Introduction (pg. 4) is a shortened introduction to the archive library with important information about its research mission.

Bradley’s Creatives – Part 1 A Short History of Holiday Visionary Louise D. Tessin (pg. 6) studies the history of an early art educator professionally hired for Milton Bradley offering a unique holiday vision in various roles from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. Includes some data concerning the artist’s personal art projects.

Contains 10 illustrations as well as source references.

Bradley’s Creatives – Part 2 Tessin, Her Contemporaries, and a Colorful Invention (pg. 14) examines the professional work of Tessin with a limited comparison to other Milto Bradley contributors (Payberg, Gode, Rehtus, Kilborn, etc.) of the time period. Combines this study with a query of possible artistic vision behind Milton Bradley’s set of stained glass window transparency decor from the 1940’s.

[For related topics read blog entry To: Halloween, From: Xmas].

I made another thing: Artists In Jackson, the magazine edition, to accompany my project's hardcover book. Full color, 96 pages, and a tad larger than the portfolio. Plus it's bendable.

We bought a copy of this gentleman’s poetry while sitting in front of Toronto’s City Hall. He said selling this pamphlet is his main source of income, and it was enough that he could pay the Salvation Army $10 a night to sleep in their facility, plus get enough to eat.

Books! Got three books back today from PhotoWorks. I am basically doing some experimenting to see what looks best. The Chocolate book is the only Hardcover book I made, and it is by far the best looking of the three.

My second publication, this time an e-book available for download for free. If you download it and all I ask in return is a post card from where ever you are in the world.

Martin Gillott, better known in the wrestling world as Jackie 'Glitterboy' Evans, knew early in his career that life in the ring would be no walk in the park. Posing as a blond, Lurex-clad gayboy who liked to fight dirty was great for ticket sales, but not so good for his health. He was knocked out five times in his career - always by a furious fan, never by his opponent. Yet Martin loved the game, and wouldn't change a day of his 12-year professional wrestling career. Now he tells all, including hilarious accounts of adventures in and out of the ring, fans violent and amorous, landladies who were scarier than Giant Haystacks and girls who were faster than Mick McManus. And then there were the many well-known names he rubbed shoulders with along the way, from Brian Glover to John Le Mesurier. Confessions Of A Wrestler will have you in stitches - just like 'Glitterboy'.
