Samuel Smiles (1812-1905) the great propagandist of Victorian values through his books, 'Self-Help', 'Character', 'Thrift' and 'Duty', inspired by his lectures to Leeds working men in 1845. He worked in Leeds 1838-58 as a newspaper editor, doctor and then railway secretary.

 

Born 23rd December 1812 in Haddington, East Lothian. He was a social reformer and author he contributed to the Edinburgh Weekly Chronicle and the Leeds Times where he was editor for 4 years. He was author of the book Self Help (1859). It sold over 250,000 copies and was followed by other self-improvement books such as Thrift (1875). The books were the tools of Victorian virtues.

In the UK, there are thousands of people suffering from Emetophobia (the fear of being sick).

 

Rob Kelly, author and creator of the Thrive Programme, launched the UK's first National Emetophobia Awareness Day to help educate and support those that suffer from the phobia to understand and overcome their fear.

 

Rob launched a new self help guide based upon the Thrive Programme, on the back of his 25 years of clinical experience and research.

 

Rob Kelly launched his new paperback book in person at No 1 Wimpole Street and revealed the latest research on Emetophobia to help UK sufferers with the condition. Alongside him were be clients, who have cured themselves using the Thrive Programme, to talk about their stories and experiences.
