Happy New Year.
My New Year tradition is to go down to Oriental Bay, enjoy the warm evening, the atmosphere and, at midnight, watch the fireworks.
I couldn't do that this year. I got Covid just after Christmas and, although I feel much better now, I am still in quarantine until 2nd January.
Sunday, 1st January 2023.
The steam train 76079 is leaving Grosmont station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway heading to Pickering
This is a BR Standard Class 4 2-6-0 steam locomotive designed by Robert Riddles for British Railways It was built at the Horwich Works in Feb 1957 and withdrawn from service with BR in 1967
It now runs on the NYMR following an overhaul in 2014 and is certified for main line hence can work between Grosmont and Whitby
Early morning on the harbour wall of the little village of Kamini on Hydra, looking across to the mainland..
For Deb, I hope you feel better soon, sending some red blooms your way xxxx
The rain in spain falls mainly on my house. :) Yes rain is the topic of conversation. My house is starting to get this weird damp feel. In fact I am starting to get this weird damp feel setting in too lol I may have to resort to walking in the rain just to starve off this feeling of being stuck inside. I mean if most of you guys can go out in the snow what a little warm rain going to do?? I came home to two black doggies last night and had to bath them to realise they were in fact mine lol I think they enjoyed their romp in the swamp in the backyard.
I have to tell you that even though it has been raining 4eva lol all is ok and safe here as I have had some people ask me because apparently our weird weather is all over the news. I am on a slight slope on the side of "that" hill. (perfect place to build that ark)
At the beginning of the week a man was driving down a local street not too far from here and hit a crocodile with his car because the road had flooded over..lol I mean this is a true story, there are dangerous things going on down under lol
Now we are getting the rain this weekend as an offshoot of the ex tropical cyclone Ellie and that will last a few more days. It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow because we are going to have a king tide. A king tide is the biggest tides of the year. And lucky us, tomorrow we are due for the biggest king tides of the year, so with all this already engorged rivers it may cause flooding in some areas.
hammer hammer hammer ..... lucky I got wood yesterday lol
So anyhoo I choose this shot I took a long while back to remind me of a more dryer time. This park now is a swimming pool and you cannot get into it as it is completely flooded. As soon as the rain stops I am heading there to get this tree again and it's reflection hopefully :)
So have a great Friday if you are there, Saturday if you are here and Sunday when you get there :) Car

Learning new techniques in Lightroom. Thought this selective colour technique would suit this photo. Not sure about it tbh...
Here's hoping 2021 brings some more 'normality' to our world. But so many thanks must be given to our health care workers, emergency services and contact tracers who are working hard to bring the latest cluster of infections under control.
But thanks also to those in the community who have done the right thing for us all, the scientists for working hard and providing public health advice and even the politicians for providing leadership.
It's been one hell of a year! Not to be forgotten for a while.
Stay safe and well friends, family and Flickr friends.
Beachy Head is a white chalk sea cliff in East Sussex, England, that is the highest in the UK, reaching 162 metres (531 feet) above sea level.
At the foot of the cliffs is a lighthouse situated on the rocky foreshore, warning sailors of the dangers hidden beneath the surface.
This photo was taken from a viewing area to the East of the lighthouse on what is called the Peace Path.
It is possible to walk to the lighthouse at certain times of the Summer at Spring Tide but it is quite treacherous with the rocks covered with seaweed and the ever eroding cliff face.
Spotted this toadstool and could just see a face in it so I thought I'd enhance the face for Sliders Sunday.

Ok, sure, those aren't cobblestones, and that isn't a road. In fact, the rose is fake as well. It's a brick wall that someone tucked a fake rose into. We were attending the Arts presentation of our granddaughter, Addie at the RNS Middle School. Some of the art projects were scattered around the theatre, and above one group was this fake flower. I almost missed it as I was shooting closeups of some of the treasures. lol After my granddaughter's dances, this was the best thing I saw. lol On this night, Addie's mom (our daughter, Bethany) was sick, and her dad had meetings (which he subsequently ended up leaving early when he came down sick), so we took her for the evening. Just one of the reasons we moved here.
This was a “wishy washy” shot of some row-boats docked on the Charles River, alongside Cambridge Parkway. I always intended for it the be black & white, but since blue was the predominant colour, I thought I’d accentuate it instead.
I know selective colouring is frowned upon in many circles, however this is my play on Selective Colours. Using the desaturation of the true colour of the flowers of this shrub giving it an unatural and subtle but delicate twist on the norm.
I rarely if ever take shots in black and white. I tried this one but couldn't help myself - I just had to add that little burst of colour into the shot.
Thank you for your comments in advance. If you take the time to comment on my work I will repay the kindness with a visit to your photo stream :-)
