The Places and Spaces team at QPRC were successful in securing grants funding from the Building Better Regions Fund (Community Stream) to create a large-scale portrait mural in the Queanbeyan CBD.
This is the first of its kind in Queanbeyan and hopefully the first in a series of street art projects that will bring colour and vibrancy to the CBD as part of our CDB Transformation Strategy.
We feel that bringing art out on to the streets makes it accessible to everyone and gives tired and underutilised areas a new lease on life.
The 'face of Queanbeyan' was sought by way of a competition called 'What's Your Story?' to enable us to capture stories from the community, making the portrait relevant to Queanbeyan.
Here is behind-the-scenes process of what went into preparing mural artist Claire Foxton for painting the artwork. She met with the nominator, Dimitri Hantas who brought his family along to meet Ricky Stuart. What a great morning that was for all involved. She then spent time chatting with Ricky to get an insight into his community spirit - she was really impressed with the charity work that Ricky does.

Evidently, the current reading of the law is that police can stop you, ask for ID, and search you and your things ANYWHERE in Toronto, including Bathurst and Bloor before the protest march. Does anyone know if this search is legal? Can you refuse? What would happen if you refused?
