Expired Kodak Plus-X, which may be one of the coolest B&W films I've yet used. I want to try out a few more rolls in 35mm and 120 that aren't expired and see how I feel about it compared to Ilford's FP4+.

My initial thought is that the Kodak feels a bit smoother and finer-grained than Ilford's stock, but only further testing will tell :-)

Who knows... it might rain a lot so one better tie the ship so it doesn´t float away!

I just wish I´ve had more time here!!!

Beacon Hill Fort in Harwich occupies an strategic position protecting the historically important Naval port in the town. Constructed in around 1889, the fort drew on a number of recent innovations; from the use of entirely breech loading (BL) guns, to the newly introduced Twydall profile of the land defences. The fort sits on a mostly man-made earth profile, designed to protect the battery (and it's disappearing carriages) from view and also from enemy naval fire. The fort was used and upgraded almost continuously from it's construction until beyond the Second World War when the development of British airpower reduced the need for expensive land based batteries.

What is unique, is that each phase of construction appears to have taken place without disturbing the previous developments, resulting in an almost unique monument to the development of not only British coastal artillery, but the evolution of defensive warfare.

The site is now in private hands and is undergoing a large clearance effort, with the gates being open most days for an explore. Drop a few ££ in the donation bucket, the owners and volunteers are doing a great job, and they let the budding explorer wander aimlessly throughout the site without challenge.

I hope I have labelled the images correctly, it is a complex site to decode. All images taken on 4 August 2018.

Each house in the village has a large courtyard with a mud wall surrounding. In the ninth part of the Rural China series, China Daily reporter D J Clark visits villagers in Gansu province to investigate how the new rural pension scheme is being received.

A total of 199 million Chinese rural residents had joined the country's rural pension insurance program by the middle of last year according the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The small statutory payment varies from province to province and can be topped up by paying higher rates into the scheme during their working years. The basic pension, although small, is a first step at providing cover to all rural residents after they reach 60, reducing their dependency on their families to support them.
