Secure and stabilise, Go behind the scenes with our soldiers from 2/1 Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment as they take on Exercise Black Bayonet.
The scenario-based exercise threw 200 of our soldiers into tactical stability and security phases set in a fictional island nation.
Soldiers worked to:
♦️Seek out insurgents in the area
♦️Secure key buildings and roads
♦️Conduct patrols around the district
♦️Practise working with local police force
♦️Perform relevant combat care to wounded personnel
This training is an important step in ensuring our Army is a high utility multi-role combat force that is equipped and prepared for future challenges.
“Having the opportunity to get out the door and train in this part of the country is great for the battalion. The Reefton community are fantastic hosts and have made us feel at home. The individual and collective skills that have been developed throughout this exercise will see our people ready to continue building to the Joint Readiness Exercise in 2024. Kura Takahi Puni – We Are Ready.” ~ Lieutenant Tony Calder-Steele, Battalion HQ

I did this picture with a family of a friend. They just got this newborn baby (3m). We went into the park to take some pictures but the best one occurred when the small guy fell asleep at home.

Winston Churchill had a special phone booth from which he could speak with the American President FDR via a wireless phone line, with the highest possible security. The communication was encrypted by an advanced security system called SIGSALY which later was widely and successfully adopted by the Allied Forces. The mechanism of the system was too difficult to explain, also such that the Germans were never able to decoded the large amount of communication they were able to capture and record.
