Psalm 91

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;

My God, in Him I will trust.”

3Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler

And from the perilous pestilence.

4He shall cover you with His feathers,

And under His wings you shall take refuge;

His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

5You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,

Nor of the arrow that flies by day,

6Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,

Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7A thousand may fall at your side,

And ten thousand at your right hand;

But it shall not come near you.

8Only with your eyes shall you look,

And see the reward of the wicked.

9Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,

Even the Most High, your dwelling place,

10No evil shall befall you,

Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

11For He shall give His angels charge over you,

To keep you in all your ways.

12In their hands they shall bear you up,

Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,

The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;

I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

15He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will deliver him and honor him.

16With long life I will satisfy him,

And show him My salvation.”

Dipper - Cinclus Cinclus

aka Water Ouzel

Double Click to view

Dippers are members of the genus Cinclus in the bird family Cinclidae, named for their bobbing or dipping movements. They are unique among passerines for their ability to dive and swim underwater.

They have a characteristic bobbing motion when perched beside the water, giving them their name. While under water, they are covered by a thin, silvery film of air, due to small bubbles being trapped on the surface of the plumage.

Dippers are found in suitable freshwater habitats in the highlands of the Americas, Europe and Asia. In Africa they are only found in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. They inhabit the banks of fast-moving upland rivers with cold, clear waters, though, outside the breeding season, they may visit lake shores and sea coasts.

The high haemoglobin concentration in their blood gives them a capacity to store oxygen greater than that of other birds, allowing them to remain underwater for thirty seconds or more, whilst their basal metabolic rate is approximately one-third slower than typical terrestrial passerines of similar mass. One small population wintering at a hot spring in Suntar-Khayata Mountains of Siberia feeds underwater when air temperatures drop below −55 °C (−67 °F).

Dippers are completely dependent on fast-flowing rivers with clear water, accessible food and secure nest-sites. They may be threatened by anything that affects these needs such as water pollution, acidification and turbidity caused by erosion. River regulation through the creation of dams and reservoirs, as well as channelization, can degrade and destroy dipper habitat.

Dippers are also sometimes hunted or otherwise persecuted by humans for various reasons. The Cyprus race of the white-throated dipper is extinct. In the Atlas Mountains dippers are claimed to have aphrodisiacal properties. In parts of Scotland and Germany, until the beginning of the 20th century, bounties were paid for killing dippers because of a misguided perception that they were detrimental to fish stocks through predation on the eggs and fry of salmonids.

A large tumulus and dolmen on the Gavrinis island in the Gulf of Morbihan. The island is around 600m long today and was perhaps 1km long in the Neolithic. A 50m diameter tumulus rises to around 7m and covers a dolmen with a gallery around 1.5 metres wide and 14 long. 29 slabs make up the 'Allée couverte' of which 23 are carved. One of the table stones is a part of a larger original carved stone that was moved around the dates of construction to three sites of massive megaliths on each side of the opening of the Bay of Morbhian into the Quiberon's Atlantic. I have yet to find the estimated original weight of the original carved stone but it is over 60 tonnes. The carved stone was split between 'du Rujk', Gavrinis and the 'Table des Merchand'. The Gavrinis element was covered in plastic several decades ago and the site is currently shut to remove the plastic which can promote a rotting of the stone.

This picture does seeing it in real life no justice.

While shooting this, the strong wind, 落山風 (a phenomenal scene took place in that region) might've blown me away, that my grandnephew had to grab my clothes to secure me. He said, "I understand how some photographers can risk their lives to take a shot they want", as he's into photography himself. :-))

“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.”

ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE – ELLA FITZGERALD

Spring is here at last

my little bird has flown

he stayed throughout Winter for four long months

but now he is fully grown

I have empty nest syndrome

he was a part of my every day

but yesterday standing by the Willow

I saw that he was not far away

I still watch the screen of the CCTV

waiting for him to roost each night

even though I know he's in the gardens

I am hoping he will nest to my delight

selfish of me I suppose although

it has been difficult to let go

I was privileged to watch this tiny wild creature

for as long as I did and at least I know

that he is happy in my gardens

I saw he met a lovely friend

I imagine them snugly in the ivy

that twines the willow around without end

each evening I stand and listen intently

and wish upon a star for signs

that my little Blue Tit is making plans

to raise a family this Spring Time

my little Robin follows me around

singing loudly and reassuring me

that my little Blue Tit is safe and secure

and life goes on quite naturally

I am heartened by this sweet revelation

and turn my attention to the budding trees

the thick evergreen of the twisting ivy

that will remain again this year for a new family

I heard tell that these little birds

can have up to fourteen tiny babies; I'm learning

and how wonderful it will be to look up at the Willow

and see my little Blue Tit's Family Tree emerging.

When I took this picture, the Mercedes must have been standing for quite some time next to a also abandoned factory. The last owner secured it with a steering lock the last time it was parked - but that probably didn't prevent it from being scrapped when the factory was demolished a while ago.
