A large duck species easily identified due to their bright white and brown plumage. They are migratory to the country from South Eastern Europe and much of Central Asia and winter in India. They are not so common in our state, but common in our neighbouring western state.
Found them in a shallow lake in the middle of a grassland where there was a group of 6 along with dozens of Pintails, Garganeys and Pochards. The rest of the ducks flew away by our presence, but these Shelducks stayed put cautiously and after a short while ignored us entirely. The birds were chasing each other and seemed to have fun for a short while. The presence of 3 large raptors distracted us and the birds which flocked together to probably feel more secure.

This group of wild geraniums is from a different area of the forest than the previous two I posted.
I found a lovely cluster of wild geraniums, most blooming and a wonderful one standing upright, about to open more blossoms.
This photo is dedicated to community members who have worked hard across the years to make voting in the USA MORE accessible to all, in particular, Stacey Abrams as an example and the whole community that she stands for. Her efforts in the Southern USA helped Biden secure his nomination and election.
With community efforts like Stacy Abrams, we can welcome in 2021 with a slightly bigger breath of freedom and joy than 2020 and several years in the past.

This adds to my "flowers for you, flower for us" album":
A large tumulus and dolmen on the Gavrinis island in the Gulf of Morbihan. The island is around 600m long today and was perhaps 1km long in the Neolithic. A 50m diameter tumulus rises to around 7m and covers a dolmen with a gallery around 1.5 metres wide and 14 long. 29 slabs make up the 'Allée couverte' of which 23 are carved. One of the table stones is a part of a larger original carved stone that was moved around the dates of construction to three sites of massive megaliths on each side of the opening of the Bay of Morbhian into the Quiberon's Atlantic. I have yet to find the estimated original weight of the original carved stone but it is over 60 tonnes. The carved stone was split between 'du Rujk', Gavrinis and the 'Table des Merchand'. The Gavrinis element was covered in plastic several decades ago and the site is currently shut to remove the plastic which can promote a rotting of the stone.

Breve historia de "Temps de Flors"
Un pequeño evento que se celebró en el Salón de Descanso del Ayuntamiento en 1954 se ha convertido en el gran festival internacional de Girona
La historia de Girona, Temps de Flors es también una historia de jóvenes emprendedores que en 1954 decidieron organizar una primera edición de lo que llamaron Concurso Exposición Provincial de Flores en el Salón de Descanso del Teatro Municipal. La buena respuesta y el interés de las personas que visitaron ese espacio entonces les empujó a sacar adelante un evento que se ha convertido en el gran festival internacional de Girona, una actividad que atrae a gente de todo el mundo.
El festival fue creciendo año tras año, tanto en lo que se refiere al espacio que lo acogÃa como por la implicación, cada vez mayor, de la ciudadanÃa y el tejido social de la ciudad. Del Salón de Descanso, que ese primer año ya quedó pequeño, se pasó a la Sala de Pergaminos de la Biblioteca Pública y después al Monasterio de Sant Pere de Galligants. Posteriormente, se pasó al convento y al claustro de Sant Domènec y más tarde, ya se empezó a extender por varios patios y jardines del Barri Vell, como la plaza de los Jurados, el claustro de la Catedral o los jardines de la plaza de NarcÃs Figueras.
La evolución del festival vivió un punto clave en 1979, cuando se organizó por primera vez en nombre de la Asociación de los Amigos de las Flores y de los Jardines. Más adelante, en 1983, se implicó también la Asociación de Amigos de la Girona Antiga, que consiguió la apertura de muchos otros patios y jardines particulares que durante el resto del año permanecÃan cerrados al público. En 1992, el Ayuntamiento de Girona se implicó definitivamente en la organización. La conjunción de estos hechos supuso un salto cualitativo y cuantitativo determinante para la proyección del festival.
Durante más de seis décadas Rosa Maria Labayen, David Marca y Josep Tarrés mantuvieron el espÃritu tradicional de la reconocida muestra floral, el evento que enorgullece a todos los gerundenses y gerundenses. Ellos consiguieron que sea un icono imprescindible de la ciudad y es a quien se debe el verdadero éxito de Girona, Temps de Flors.
A Brief History of Temps de Flors
A small event held in the City Hall's Lounge in 1954 has become Girona's major international festival.
The history of Girona, Temps de Flors is also a story of young entrepreneurs who, in 1954, decided to organize the first edition of what they called the Provincial Flower Exhibition and Competition in the Lounge of the Municipal Theatre. The positive response and interest from visitors encouraged them to develop an event that has become Girona's major international festival, an activity that attracts people from all over the world.
The festival grew year after year, both in terms of the venue and the increasing involvement of the city's citizens and social fabric. From the Lounge, which became too small that first year, it moved to the Parchment Room of the Public Library and later to the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants. Later, the festival moved to the convent and cloister of Sant Domènec, and subsequently expanded to various courtyards and gardens in the Barri Vell (Old Quarter), such as Plaça dels Jurats, the Cathedral cloister, and the gardens of Plaça de NarcÃs Figueras.
The festival's evolution reached a pivotal point in 1979, when it was first organized by the Association of Friends of Flowers and Gardens. Later, in 1983, the Association of Friends of Old Girona also became involved, securing the opening of many other private courtyards and gardens that remained closed to the public for the rest of the year. In 1992, the Girona City Council definitively became involved in the organization. The convergence of these events represented a decisive qualitative and quantitative leap for the festival's growth.
For over six decades, Rosa Maria Labayen, David Marca, and Josep Tarrés maintained the traditional spirit of the renowned flower show, an event that fills all the residents of Girona with pride. They made it an essential icon of the city, and it is thanks to them that Girona, Temps de Flors (Girona Flower Festival) truly succeeds.

Sorry for my absence friends.. If I knew that being retired would result in such busy days I would kept on working! :).. Been a lot with the boat / camp clubs I do a lot of accounting and webside work for.. But important to stay active is it not :) .. VMV released Union Pacific's rebuilt A-B-A set of E units in the spring of 1993, working their way west on April 27 from St. Louis across Missouri on the Sedalia Subdivision.
Union Pacific had their company photographer following the train, making several stops along the way to document the rebuilt locomotives. Here, the train is posed for the cameras along the banks of the Missouri River in Hermann. The UP chase crew secured track and time on the adjacent mainline for the company photographer to setup his huge camera on the south track that shot 8x10 negatives. UP was friendly to the other railfans chasing the train, allowing us on the mainline to make our photos as well.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 17th of January is "plush toys", which is the perfect theme for me, as I have a lovely collection of soft plush bears who quite enjoy being in front of my camera and under my lens. Both made by Merrythought Bears in Ironbridge, Shropshire, Edgar and Benjamin are the two latest additions to my ever burgeoning bear family. I hope you like my choice of bears for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.
This beautiful Willow Pattern nursery tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1920s. It features four cups and saucers as well as a tea pot, coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated with the Willow Pattern in blue, just like the life-size equivalent. It has two sister sets: a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set that I was given as a gift some years ago by a close friend who knows I collect nursery ware and children’s tea sets and a faerie tale set from the 1930s Shell China Company faerie tale tea set that I have built up from various sellers over time.
Handmade at Merrythought in England from warm-gold tousled mohair plush, Edgar is a cheerful companion who has terracotta pure cotton velvet paws, and wears a delightful floral cotton bow tie. He is number 2 of a limited worldwide edition of 200.
Benjamin is made by Merrythought in England too. A friendly character, he has been handmade from soft, caramel-coloured mohair plush featuring a chocolate-coloured base that beautifully complements his pure wool felt paws. He wears a traditional, satin-lined waistcoat made from the finest British tweed and secured with brass studs. He is number 110 of a limited worldwide edition of 150.
Heavy-duty chain used to secure my bicycle in the garage. The last link was open to the air, the other ones were covered in heavy plastic. (My bicycle has since been retired due to my balance issues and the chain is no longer used.) For Macro Mondays: Chain and my POTD.

Well it is normally always closed and securely locked , entry is normally from another entrance . Being opened is what attracted my attention and when I took a nosey peep through the opened door I saw another church going through an all the more common trend . I assume from what I saw that yes the interior is being decorated , BUT all the pews were gone !!
I would have thought that if they were being kept they would have just been covered .
