BARCELONA, SPAIN - OCTOBER 03: Catalan Police officers secure the area as thousands of people chant slogans outside the General Direction of the National Police of Spain building to protest against the violence that marred Sunday's referendum vote during a regional general strike on October 3, 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. According to the Catalonia's government more than two million people voted on Sunday in the referendum of Catalonia, which the Government in Madrid had declared illegal and undemocratic. Officials said that 90% of votes cast were for independence. The Catalan goverment's spokesman said that an estimated of 770,000 votes were lost as a result of 400 polling stations being raided by Spanish police. Hundreds of citizens were injured during the police crackdown.

We recently started working with La Main Tendre Orphanage to secure the education of the thirty school age kids in the Orphanage’s care.

We’ve already provided desks and school supplies for the free school that the orphanage hosts, and we’ll soon build a semi-permanent, transitional classroom on the property. The project's entire cost will be less than $1,250 or EU 898.

When we say a “transitional classroom” we mean a classroom that will be usable and comfortable as is for a number of years and can later be expanded into a full permanent school.

Transitional classrooms can be built using only a small investment and will ensure education for vulnerable children for years to come.

At the moment we are constructing the classroom’s roofing structures on our base and will soon start building at the orphanage. This project is on-going, so keep checking in for updates.

I really did put a lot of thought into how I wanted this picture to look. I wanted to put a frame around it, but I didn't like how I felt it took away from what I was seeing.

To ensure that the Army’s Multi-Functional Teams are properly equipped to provide multidisciplinary intelligence collection, exploitation, and limited analysis, existing intelligence and communication capabilities need to be integrated into mission-capable packages. Securing today’s connected enterprise is a race across many different terrains where we are often unsure or unaware of what lies ahead and who or where our opponents really are.As boundaries continue to erode between the physical and cyber worlds, between high and low-tech risks, between the human workforce and artificial intelligence, and as the valuation of digital compared to physical assets undergoes radical shifts, ASIS Europe 2018 tackles the most challenging issues.Cyber-physical threats in hyper-complex, connected environments are the core themes of the event.ASIS, as a global community of security practitioners tasked with the protection of assets – people, property, and information – is uniquely positioned to deal with enterprise-wide risks.

ASIS Europe 2019 – From Risk to Resilience

Today’s enterprise is connected, complex and global. Securing innovation and competitive advantage requires simultaneously protecting people, information, products, and property. Rapid, interconnected change, and shifting perceptions of risk and value are key challenges for security practi-tioners. ASIS Europe programme is designed to provide unique insights to help you, your teams and your organisation. We will examine evolving security challenges from the perspective of leaders tasked with protecting their organi-sation’s reputation and most precious assets in a manner that drives business, organisational and cultural goals. | Foto © Charles Batenburg

The recent NHS hack highlights just one of the new challenges government faces as it enters the digital age. Digital public services need to be easy to use, secure and save money. But someone needs to be responsible for setting and enforcing standards, driving the improvement of services and safeguarding against cyberattacks. So, who is it?

To discuss this issue, our panel included:

Ciaran Martin, CEO, National Cyber Security Centre

Janet Hughes, Digital Leadership Director, Doteveryone

Bryan Glick, Editor in Chief, Computer Weekly

Daniel Thornton, Programme Director at the Institute, Chaired the discussion and presented new research.

The global financial crisis has had very different impacts in countries in emerging Europe and Central Asia compared to other countries in Asia and advanced Europe. What economic weaknesses did the impact of the crisis reveal?

When I first saw two bikes secured to a railing outside of Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington, it seemed a little unusual. Especially with a bike rack only a few feet away.

Then it became clear to me that it was a very good extra security choice. By elevating the bikes against the railing they became more visible to customers inside a restaurant with a large window to the street .Eyes not only of residents, but tourists.Tourists take a lot of pictures. Thieves don't want witnesses with their mug shots.
