a panel discussion at Duke Divinity School examines connections between scripture and poetry

I cut out scripture and words that inspire me and tape them all over my house. This was on the doorframe of my kitchen and it started get a little ragged so my hubby asked it I could take it down. I agreed, but I told him I would replace it with something new. So I took a pic of it before I removed it. I hope it gives you peace like it did for me.

My 6 year old trying to help my five year old read the scriptures. It was such a beautiful moment, I had to capture it. :)

The Kuthodaw Pagoda or Maha Lawka Marazein Paya (Royal Merit Pagoda) was built by King Mindon Min (reigned 1852-1878). He was concerned about the invading British and what their presence in Burma would mean for Buddhist teachings and had the entire 15 books of the Tripitaka, the sacred scriptures of Theravada Buddhism, inscribed in gold on huge marble tablets.

This is a passage from the Book of Mormon that my Dad highlighted before giving this set of scriptures to me. He passed away last May and I found this note written in the margin. I love my Dad, and I miss him a lot.

"...that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."

Agape. This Greek word (and agapao) is used as both a verb (action word!) and a noun (the thing of person, place or thing) that describes the attitude and actions of our Father God towards His Son, Jesus Christ our Savior. This is also the attitude and action that He looks at us! The simplest way to share this meaning is "to esteem above all else." It is the attitude we are told to have towards one another!

Agape was originally translated charity in the King James version; a lot of people think that giving to charities is what verses like Colossians 3:14, 2 Thessalonians 1:3, 1 Timothy 1:5 mean; unfortunately, mistakes in translations have occurred from the Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic manuscripts that are from the original language of Scripture. People have been translating the Bible for people of different languages for thousands of years; unfortunately, they didn't always completely understand what the original manuscript meant, so "best educated guessing" occurred. In some instances, the mistakes created great confusion!

If we remember the way God the Father "esteems above all else "His Son, He has this attitude about you and me also ... this is what we are to share with one another! What a vibrant and powerful thought we bring to our lives when we "esteem others" as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit esteems us!

Read 2 Timothy 2:22; Titus 2:2; 1 Peter 4:8; 2 Peter 1:7; Jude 12; 1 Corinthians 8:1, 13:1, Revelations 2:19 for more illumination.

To Be Mature

4 1-3 In light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.

4-6 You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly. You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness.
