Romans 10:9-13
9 that iif you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus died that death for YOU and I. The good news is there no more punishment for sin left, we were and are all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus died that death for YOU and I. The good news is there no more punishment for sin left, we were and are all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. Scripture: Mark:10:46-52
Pearl: The Way Appeared Before Him
I don’t know when you encountered Jesus, when you began to see? It may have been at a specific time in your life or a gradual change, but you knew that your life was never going to be the same. You now have the eyes of faith. You understand that you are now walking in the “way.” You can see the path that lays open before you, and that you are going to follow Jesus.
Interestingly, the way, is actually how we navigate the complexities and uncertainties that appear in every waking moment of our lives. Might we be calling Jesus constantly in our lives, like Bartimaeus, to help us see, and navigate the various obstacles that will certainly block the way?
The blind man in our gospel reading is being led by faith and is acting out of that faith, seeking healing. It is because he moved, because he spoke and moved past the barrage of voices that would discourage him- that would include the many voices he heard in his own mind. He desperately tells Jesus “Master, I want to see.” Jesus reply’s: “Go your way, your faith has saved you.” Bartimaeus received not only his sight, but also a deeper faith in the healer-Jesus Christ. A path that he could journey on appeared before him.
That is why we pray. We are calling out….to be seen and heard. Yes, we must move past those voices that cause us doubt and distress. We must move past the the voices, our own thoughts and feelings, that would impede us from calling out to the very God that St. Augustine says “is closer to us then we are to ourselves.”
We do have gigantic distractions today! Every generation has had those larger the life events that distract them and make them feel that this is the end of times. The distractions we are bombarded with are Covid, Climate change, political turmoil, civil unrest, homelessness and so much more. The reality is that these big issues manifest themselves every day. Do we wear a mask here or there? Do I get a booster shot? Do I water the lawn today? Do I buy food or gas today? Do I watch the news today? It is so natural to be caught up into the whirlwind of the present moment…that our heavenly gaze is clouded over and our walk with God is obstructed.
We may feel that we are flying blind! However, in humility, we face our uncertainty with an internal compass (our conscience), that guides us and assists in navigating life. Our relationship with Jesus, provides with the confidence that we can face the changes and uncertainty that greets us. We see with new eyes-spiritual eyes.
In the prayer of Zechariah it says:
In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
When we see with our spiritual eyes, we turn off the chatter and this is against our nature. We see the beauty the surrounds us. Our faith and hope in the one that holds us in existence is our solid foundation in which we see the world. We do not fear the uncertainty of the future, for our gaze is on the one that constantly walks with us and leads us on the way.
I now quote a famous prayer from Thoughts in Solitude by Thomas Merton:
My Lord God,
I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think I am following your will
does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you
does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road,
though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always though
I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me,
and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. (end quote)
Now we come forth, towards the light-the Eucharist …our Jesus that feeds us, sustains us and gives us the courage to be a light for others.

Hopefully, God willing, I'll be back Tuesday. Hurricane Irma almost here. Took a bit of a left leaning path, which blesses me and my babies in Orlando. We're still in danger and it Increases our tornado risk, but I've got our interior hall (no windows) all ready to go. Eleven cats and me stuck in a hall for two days ... phew!

One year nearer to Heaven--or nearer to Hell!

Another year has passed away--gone into eternity with all its sad and glad records.
Sad, because of our sins and our failures--all of which have been observed and recorded by the All-seeing eye!
Sad, because numbers who "did run well"--do so no longer.
Glad, because of the "goodness and mercy" which have surely followed us day by day.
Glad, because . . .
weak ones have been strengthened,
sorrowing ones have been comforted, and
hungry ones have been fed with the Bread of Life.
How is it with you--progression or regression?
One thing is certain--January, 1926 finds you one year nearer to Heaven--or nearer to Hell!
Reader! You have entered this New Year, either accepted in God's Beloved--or under God's holy wrath! How unspeakably solemn are the alternatives!
To any unsaved reader who scans these lines, we would say: You have commenced this year on earth--and you may end it in Hell, where a ray of hope never enters. "Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace. Thereby good will come to you." Job 22:21
To the Christian--not to the professing one, but the the genuine believer--we would say: What a bright hope is yours! How precious is the thought, that before 1926 ends, you may be "forever with the Lord!" The bud of promise--may burst into the full fruit of unspeakable bliss! The springtime of faith and hope--may give place to the unending summertime of blessedness and eternal glory.
Since this is the case, let us be reminded of our solemn responsibility at the dawn of another year . . .
to yield ourselves afresh to God,
to seek His face with full purpose of heart,
to supplicate Him for new supplies of grace--
that we may serve Him as never before!
"The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light." Romans 13:11-12

This would be the day that the Lord, Christ Jesus, took the cross.
What is substitutionary atonement?
The substitutionary atonement refers to Jesus Christ dying as a substitute for sinners. The Scriptures teach that all people are sinful before God.
"What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin;
as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.
Their throat is an open grave, With their tongues they keep deceiving, The poison of asps is under their lips; Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; Their feet are swift to shed blood, Destruction and misery are in their paths, And the path of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”" Romans 3:9-18, 23
The penalty for our sinfulness is death. Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
That verse teaches us several things. Without Christ, we are going to die and spend an eternity in hell as payment for our sins. Death in the Scriptures refers to a “separation.”
Everyone will die, but some will live in heaven with the Lord for eternity, while others will live a life in hell for eternity. The death spoken of here refers to the life in hell.
However, the second thing this verse teaches us is that eternal life is available through Jesus Christ. This is His substitutionary atonement.
Jesus Christ died in our place when He was crucified on the cross. We deserved to be the ones placed on that cross to die because we are the ones who live sinful lives. But Christ took the punishment on Himself in our place. He substituted Himself for us and took what we rightly deserved.
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” 2 Corinthians 5:21
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed” 1 Peter 2:24
Here again we see that Christ took the sins we committed onto Himself to pay the price for us. A few verses later we read,
“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit” 1 Peter 3:18
Not only do these verses teach us about the substitute that Christ was for us, but they also teach that He was the atonement, meaning He satisfied the payment due for the sinfulness of man.
One more passage that talks about the substitutionary atonement is Isaiah 53:5. This verse talks about the coming Christ who was to die on the cross for our sins. The prophecy is very detailed, and the crucifixion happened just as it was foretold.
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Notice the substitution. Here again we see that Christ paid the price for us!
We can only pay the price of sin on our own by being punished and placed in hell for all eternity.
But God’s Son, Jesus Christ, came to earth to pay the price of our sins. Because He did this for us, we now have the opportunity to not only have our sins forgiven, but to spend eternity with Him.
In order to do this, we must place our faith in what Christ did on the cross. We cannot save ourselves; we need a substitute to take our place. The death of Jesus Christ is the substitutionary atonement.
