The FLOWER project will increase women workers’ awareness of their socio-economic rights, of the health risks of the pandemic, and of the opportunities available in terms of law, funds and functioning of the market, in order to achieve better working conditions, production processes, quality and hygiene of food products, distribution channels and access to local and national markets. It will also train young local coaches on mechanisms of funds access and business management, and enable women’s groups to become familiar with economic, commercial and financial approaches to crisis management.

A public exhibition is being held at the Trinity Church Hall, Gilbert Street, Inverness, between noon and 6.30pm on Wednesday 26 March to give the public a chance to see and discuss plans for the second phase of the River Ness Flood Alleviation Scheme, which is scheduled to get under way at the end of April and continue for one year.
The Highland Council has awarded a £9.3 million contract to McLaughlin and Harvey Ltd, the company that recently built the new ferry terminal extension at Sconser, Skye.
Representatives of the Council and the contractor will be present to discuss the plans for the work and the temporary traffic orders required to allow the works to proceed.
Scheme drawings and visualisations of the flood wall will be displayed and the types of machinery used and sandstone samples will be available for viewing. Representatives from Inverness City Arts (ICarts) will also be present to discuss their proposals for the riverside art works and to listen to ideas for this section of the scheme.
Residents and businesses affected by the Phase 2 works have already received a letter advising them of the impending works which will take place on both sides of the river between Friars Bridge and the mouth of the river near the harbour.
The scheme will raise the existing flood defences along both banks of the river in the form of low walls and embankments. To enable construction of the flood scheme, temporary ‘Traffic Orders’ will come into force on streets affected by the works.
The contract will be carried out at the same time as works on the first phase of flood alleviation between Ness Bridge and Friars Bridge. Every effort will be made to minimise traffic disruption.

They planned to burn along the top line & if that failed they'd burn the contingency line as a last resort. Of course we hoped it wouldn't come to that. They burned section by section, moving along as they went. It took 2 1/2 days to burn all of it, just on this side of the mountain.
Commissioned by Nathaniel Lloyd and designed by Edwin Lutyens, a project which began in 1910. View from the rear with the third component of the Lutyens scheme to the right:
"Lloyd was keen that the restoration and enlargement of Great Dixter should reflect local traditions and so he and Lutyens motored round the area examining old buildings. At Benenden, some nine miles away from Northiam, they saw the derelict remains of an early 16th-century timber house called the Old House at Home, the chimney of which had collapsed, rendering the structure subject to a demolition order. At Lutyens’ suggestion, negotiations for its purchase were entered into with its owner, a local auctioneer called Charles Butcher, and were concluded in June 1910 for the sum of £75. The need to integrate this building into the scheme was the deciding factor in the form that the house would take. The components of the Old House at Home were carefully numbered and the building was then dismantled. The following year it was re-erected at Dixter, where the accommodation it provided included the principal bedroom, now the Yeoman’s Hall, flanked by a dressing room and bathroom, with a further bedroom and the night nursery upstairs. In all aspects of the restoration, Lloyd was keen to ensure that nothing was faked: ‘The spirit in which the work has been done may be summed up by saying that nothing has been done without authority, nothing has been done from imagination; there has been no forgery’ (from an unpublished memorandum by Nathaniel Lloyd, c. 1913)." It should be opening in "Autumn" (according to the signs), but Tesco tend to build things at ferocious pace (compared to Government buildings which stagnate for a long time)
Kilkenny Central Access Scheme (CAS), previously Kilkenny Inner Relief Road Scheme is a controversial new road, improvement of existing roads and junctions, and a new concrete River Nore bridge, with provisions for footpaths and cycle lanes throughout. CAS comprises 4.5 kilometers of single carriageway road that is 7.3 metres wide. The scheme is proving to be controversial as the route of the completed road will bring heavy traffic through residential areas, also the route will bring heavy traffic through the centre of medieval Irishtown section of the city.
The Inner Relief Road was first proposed in 1978 as a means of providing access to brewery traffic to the brewery itself, which has now closed. Kilkenny city is currently surrounded by two thirds of a ring-road and the completion of this ring-road is seen by some as a greater priority for alleviating Kilkenny's traffic problems as they stand. Kilkenny County Council remains resolved that progress in the CAS project should continue ahead of completion to the outer ring road.
Residents and and those who work in the locality have repeatedly expressed frustration with the ongoing works, traffic problems, and the level of communication with them.
As is always the case in Ireland people object to new infrastructure when it is too late to do so. During my visit to Kilkenny anyone that I spoke to had nothing good to say about the new bridge or the supporting infrastructure but not one person could actually explain why they had issues except to say that they felt that the bridge should have been located elsewhere.
I had hoped that the bridge would have been opened at the time of my visit but this was not the case. During my visit I discovered that there is no exact date yet confirmed for the official opening of the Central Access Scheme, although the council says it is likely to be early May.
The name of the new bridge has yet to be decided, but council’s naming and memorial committee is due to meet in the coming days. The issue is likely to be on the agenda at the next monthly meeting of Kilkenny County Council.
Meanwhile, a number of local roads around the Central Access Scheme will be temporarily closed in the coming days, for final works as the project nears completion.

While taking a break during a photo shoot on a frigidly cold day, I had left my tuba on the steps of the Brenke Fish Ladder (Lansing, MI) to warm my hands. I walked up to the my friend (Mike) who was taking my PR shots with my horn and rifled off some shots on my own camera.
