The RISE project aims to increase economic resilience and employment opportunities for vulnerable groups in Morocco and Tunisia by improving institutional, technical, social and economic conditions for innovative entrepreneurial activity, inclusive growth and job creation. It will provide tailored employment-related capacity development and entrepreneurial programmes, promote networks and dialogue among actors of the business ecosystem, support entrepreneurial activity and build capacities of MSMEs to enable income generation and job creation.

They are also central to efforts to achieve more inclusive growth and sustainable employment.
Challenges to starting and maintaining a business include complicated and expensive legal and administrative requirements, lack of access to finance and effective support, and more recently issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project will also address barriers to women’s employment and tailor targeting criteria to ensure 50% of beneficiaries are women. The design of activities and feedback will ensure the voices of women, young people and minorities such as refugees, displaced and disabled people are included.

Tuli Lushongwe Irrigation Scheme's drip irrigation scheme is set to be replaced with a less expensive system.
The European Union (EU) availed 6 million Euro support to assist improve income, food and nutrition security of small holder communal farmers involved in small scale irrigation in Zimbabwe.
This will be achieved through physical rehabilitation of irrigation schemes and enhancement of production and marketing capacities.

6.5 million women in Morocco work in rural food production, and 1.8 million in Tunisia; more than half of these women are informal workers without a contract, and therefore without access to social protection, healthcare or formal structures that would allow them to benefit from governmental support in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The agricultural sector has been particularly affected by the pandemic due to the limitation of the movement of people and goods, the closure of usual markets and points of sale, and changes in consumer practices, including apprehension towards products whose production cannot be traced. This has further exacerbated many women’s risk of job loss, poverty and disease.
The FLOWER project will increase women workers’ awareness of their socio-economic rights, of the health risks of the pandemic, and of the opportunities available in terms of law, funds and functioning of the market, in order to achieve better working conditions, production processes, quality and hygiene of food products, distribution channels and access to local and national markets. It will also train young local coaches on mechanisms of funds access and business management, and enable women’s groups to become familiar with economic, commercial and financial approaches to crisis management.
