El Paraíso is a department of Honduras located in the dry corridor, heavily affected by drought. A project led by the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) of Columbia University, and supported by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) is testing with local farmers the feasibility of an Index insurance scheme to help them deal with this problem. HISTORY: The scheme to construct Macclesfield Canal began in 1824 following six decades of proposals. Designed by engineer Thomas Telford it was built over a 7 year period, opening in 1831. The waterway, constructed by William Crosley connected Marple and Macclesfield plus the intermediate towns of Bollington and crosley.
At just over 26 miles in length, it included 13 locks along its journey.
The canal fell under ownership of the MSLR railway company in 1846 and was notably successful amongst other canals right until the mid 1950s.
Following the canal east to west, its route begins at Marple Junction, breaking off from the Peak Forest Canal, at a direct right angle under Lockside Bridge, and ends at Hall Green, connecting with the Trent and Mersey Canal, via a short branch. The canal also runs close alongside the former Marple to Stockport railway line for a large part of its length. The route includes 13 locks, 12 of which are in a flight - a three-quarter size version of the Peak Forest canal's equivalent. There is also a single step lock connecting at the western end.
Part of the Cheshire Ring canal network, Macclesfield Canal is one of the last canals built in the UK and is well maintained with several Grade II listed structures and a superb wharf at Marple. Also of note is the majestic Goyt Mill building at Bridge No3, with it's huge door hoist still in situ.

The agricultural sector has been particularly affected by the pandemic due to the limitation of the movement of people and goods, the closure of usual markets and points of sale, and changes in consumer practices, including apprehension towards products whose production cannot be traced. This has further exacerbated many women’s risk of job loss, poverty and disease.
The FLOWER project will increase women workers’ awareness of their socio-economic rights, of the health risks of the pandemic, and of the opportunities available in terms of law, funds and functioning of the market, in order to achieve better working conditions, production processes, quality and hygiene of food products, distribution channels and access to local and national markets. It will also train young local coaches on mechanisms of funds access and business management, and enable women’s groups to become familiar with economic, commercial and financial approaches to crisis management.

Ferguslie park groups have a walk about the scheme to highlight the dramatic changes needed to bring it back to where in should be.
The scheme in some parts has slipped down hill where fly tipping, vandalism to private landlords ignoring their responsibilities have seen many demand change for the better.
So hopefully in the future the residents and private landlords will all come together to make Ferguslie park a better place to live for all.

UNICEF, in collaboration with the regional water bureau and water offices, has built eight multi-village schemes (including Afdera) since the 2015/16 El Nino drought. These multi-village schemes are part of a long-term strategy to build climate-resilient infrastructure that reduces vulnerability to shocks and provides improved water service levels to the communities. Prince Albert's planting scheme was partially dictated by the already well-established late 18th century landscape that surrounded Osborne House. Other influences include his liking for poplars found at his family home of the Rosenau, and for the Italian fashion which he had seen at first hand of lining principal drives and walks with evergreens, such as myrtle and laurel. The walled kitchen-garden and adjoining pleasure grounds in front of the house remained as elements from the late 18th century landscape. The upper and lower terraces, with their ornamental parterres interspersed with statues representing the seasons, were constructed under the supervision of Prince Albert and Ludwig Gruner. The Swiss Cottage Garden laid out in 1853, with furnished cottage, was used by the children to grow and sell vegetables as a practical exercise in market gardening. The garden is following a restoration programme with the aim to present the park and garden landscape as close to the period before Queen Victoria's death as possible.
This picture is part of my set of pictures of the new Tesco Extra on Saville Street in Sheffield - the first Tesco Extra in Sheffield.
I'm trying to add to the set of images as the site moves from empty car garages to building site to new shop.
It should be opening in "Autumn" (according to the signs), but Tesco tend to build things at ferocious pace (compared to Government buildings which stagnate for a long time)

It seems that almost every colour in the gardening palette was used along Weymouth Seafront. I think this was my favourite scheme of the lot
“I had worked out a scheme for a bridge about 1936 but it didn’t receive any great favour as the War Office had decided on another…When in 1941 the existing bridges were found to be not entirely satisfactory I again put forward my idea of the Bailey bridge and we were asked to go ahead at full speed to complete the design and manufacture a prototype.”
A Bailey team was established of dedicated personnel who worked many long hours (a 90 hour week was not unusual). Within 2 months the preliminary design work was completed and the first bridge was manufactured and ready for trials 3 months later.
